Raoni Barcelos says he’s “fine” after a scary ending to his main event clash with Raul Rosas Jr. on Saturday night at the Meta APEX. Barcelos seemed to collapse and lose consciousness in the fourth round, forcing referee Herb Dean to call an end to the fight .

Barcelos was stretchered out of the Octagon and he did not regain consciousness until he was in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. Thankfully, Barcelos was able to address fans on Monday and his coach is seemingly ruling out a stroke or a heart attack. Let’s talk MMA.

Coach Davi Ramos delivered the medical update from outside the hospital, standing with Barcelos’ father Laerte: “He did not have a stroke, it wasn’t a heart attack, nothing like that, but we still don’t have an explanation for what happened.” The UFC said Saturday that Barcelos was taken to a Level 1 trauma center and was stable, alert and responsive with full movement after a CT scan. Both men earned $100,000 Fight of the Night bonuses.

Moving forward, it is unclear how this situation will impact the rest of Barcelos’ career. You’d imagine the UFC will want to ensure Barcelos is healthy enough to compete. He posted this update on himself through an interpreter.

Oddly enough, Barcelos was up on all three of the judges’ scorecards, though it appeared he was beginning to fade just before he collapsed. Had he not experienced the medical emergency, some believe he might have won the fight. As it is, Rosas was the victor and he progressed on his journey toward becoming a world champion.
