While it is no great surprise that Amazon keeps renewing Reacher for more seasons, it was a bit eyebrow-raising when the service announced Monday that Reacher would get a season 6. This is while season 5 is still in production and is not likely to come out for at least another year. But that raises questions about its sibling show, Neagley , which just aired its first season and has not yet been renewed for season 2. This seems like it would have been a prime moment to announce that it was getting one.

This is the first time Reacher has gotten two different renewals in the same year, and the reason is that season 4 had 66 million viewers in 28 days, which actually was up from season 3’s performance. That is a true rarity in the streaming space, and exactly what Amazon wants to see. Reacher seasons 2 and 4 are among the top 5 most-watched seasons of any show on Amazon Prime Video, a list that includes the first seasons of The Rings of Power and Fallout .

Here’s what Peter Friedlanger, Head of Global Television at Amazon MGM Studios, said about the renewal:

“Alan Ritchson is Jack Reacher — he’s delivered a performance that has captivated audiences around the world. Together with our partners at Paramount Television Studios, we couldn’t be more excited to continue this journey. Reacher is a truly iconic series, and we’re thrilled to be on the ride with this extraordinary cast and crew for Season Six.”

So, where’s Neagley ? Should we be concerned it’s not mentioned in any of this? No, I wouldn’t be.

The Deadline article reporting the news says things are “looking good” for a Neagley season 2 renewal, and despite being MIA from the Reacher announcement and with no big numbers to share, you can probably see the path forward.

First, Neagley is very obviously performing well on Amazon, even if we don’t have exact figures. Neagley , almost since its premiere almost two weeks ago, had been #1 on Amazon’s Top 10 list, which includes both movies and shows. Reacher has moved down to #3 after its finale, while Neagley was a binge-dropped release that same night. It is also above #2, the high-profile movie adaptation of The Love Hypothesis with Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman.

On top of this, you can see the vision. Amazon is renewing Reacher incredibly early now to try to reduce the gap between seasons to closer to 12-month spacing, attempting to ape The Pitt on HBO. But in the middle of that gap, it’s easy to see how they could slot Neagley in there once they get a regular schedule going. If both could be yearly, that’s 16 weeks of Reacher -based content out of 52 in the year.

Monday may have been Reacher’s day, but I firmly believe that good Neagley season 2 news is coming soon.
