Wednesday was one of Netflix’s top shows in its history in season 1 and still holds the all-time English-language record for views. It has 252 million views and 1.7 billion hours viewed, an enormous gap between it and second place, Adolescence , with 142 million and 546 million. Unfortunately for Netflix, it also has a similarly large gap with Wednesday season 2. Now, the release date of Wednesday season 3 is trying to change that.

Wednesday season 2 dropped to 119 million views and 928 million hours viewed, a sharp decline. It was an increasingly traditional second-season loss, something Netflix is frequently plagued by, but obviously the hope was that the first season went so viral that it would result in greater numbers early on the next time around. That did not happen.

We have an update about season 3 of Wednesday that shows how Netflix is trying to change the main reason for that: The 2-year, 8-month gap between season 1 and season 2, incredibly long even by streaming standards, and frequently used as an example of why audiences depart from popular shows.

Today, we know that Wednesday season 3, which has been shooting for most of the year, is set to wrap next month in October . That coincides with star Jenna Ortega’s schedule, as she will then head out to film a movie called Nasty with Rose Byrne in November. So, using past data, we can figure out a release date window.

When is the Wednesday season 3 release date?

  • Wednesday season 2 wrapped filming around early December 2024. Season 2 then aired on August 6, 2025, around eight months later.
  • So, if Wednesday season 3 ends filming in say, early October, eight months after that would be June 2027. That would be a gap of 1 year and 9 months between seasons 1 and 2, shaving about an entire year off the previous gap, which was also hampered by Hollywood strikes.

We have not seen a trailer for season 3 yet, only some plot and cast announcements. Season 3 of Wednesday will time jump to her senior year, indicating that if there are more seasons after this (and there most likely will be), Wednesday will probably leave Nevermore behind.

We also know that big names are being added to the cast: Eva Green, Winona Ryder, Lena Headey, and Andrew McCarthy, though we don’t yet know all the roles they’re playing. Eva Green, we do know, will play the not-yet-seen Aunt Ophelia who has similar future-seeing powers to Wednesday, and will be key to the season 3 plot.

It looks like the best-case scenario for a Wednesday season 3 release date is June 2027, but given how TV production works these days, it could stretch past that. If Netflix is going to do a fourth season, they should probably renew it even before season 3 is out to get a jump on things.
