Zwift has announced its latest platform update, and new features include Whoop integration and an expansion of Zwift’s Watopia game world.

Whoop integration means those who use the screen-free wearable will see their training readiness in the Zwift Companion app affected by their Whoop Recovery Score.

This will also impact which workout are suggested. Whoop integration is available now, and “later this fall” the partnership will work the other way too, meaning Zwift workouts you’ve done will be visible within the Whoop app.

Zwift Changes Beyond Whoop

Next up is one every Zwift user can appreciate, an expansion of the Watopia environment.

18km of new roads will connect the Jarvis Island area to Mayan Jungle zone. Currently the two areas have an expanse of water between them, meaning you need to cycle through the volcano and the Italian villas area to get from one to the other.

Watopia’s new area will be inspired by California’s west coast, as well as Catalina Island, suggesting we’ll be looking at pretty and sunny beach front vistas. But not much in the way of inclines.

One of the new routes specifically offers a way to bypass Watopia’s Epic KOM climb — one of the platform’s early major climbs before Alpe Du Zwift stole its thunder in 2018.

These new roads will be available to ride on from October 26.

Other changes coming include a reworked look for the Zwift Companion app, beginning on Septehmber 22, and a new Watt Lock feature due in October. This acts like an easy-access ERG mode, where the smart trainer will keep your wattage output at a consistent level. It will be accessible from the in-game action bar, so can easily be enabled during a ride.

Zwift is also getting two new Halo Bikes, but you’ll have to be a fairly advanced Zwift’er to get hold of them. Cervelo and Canyon join Specialized, Cannondale and Pinarello as the brands that have these special virtual bikes.

To earn them you’ll need to fully upgrade three bikes from those brands. More cosmetic items are also coming to the platform’s Drop Shop, including items from Kona and Factor Bikes.

Zwift currently costs $19.99 a month, while a Whoop subscription starts at $199 a year, including required hardware.
