One of the most beloved versions of The Legend of Zelda franchise is headed for a highly anticipated remake in November on Nintendo Switch 2. The Ocarina of Time remake is the biggest Nintendo release of the fourth quarter.

While Breath of the Wild raised the bar for open-world exploration in the series — and gaming in general — it could be argued that Ocarina of Time’s storytelling was superior. The question is what if anything will be new about the remake? Let’s talk video games.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Key Facts

Nintendo first revealed the remake during its June 9, 2026, Nintendo Direct. The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct in September then locked in a Nov. 5, 2026, release date, exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 .

Pre-orders are open through the Nintendo Store and major retailers. The digital edition costs $59.99, and the physical game card costs $69.99. The first production run of the physical edition carries textured foil cover art while supplies last.

Nintendo hasn’t announced a collector’s edition or a pre-order bonus for the game.

What’s New in the Ocarina of Time Remake?

Nintendo is wise not to meddle too deeply with the original design. More contemporary controls will help drive the game to a new audience and it may even make the game more exciting for fans who may be experiencing it for the second time.

A Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 console arrives Oct. 29, 2026, a week before the game, alongside a matching Pro Controller and carrying case. The console doesn’t include Ocarina of Time, so the game is sold separately.

Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo are due in 2027 and unlock retro-style masks in the game.

Control configuration will always be a thing for remade Nintendo 64 titles. Nothing can duplicate that monstrous controller we used to use. However, it seems Nintendo has hit the target with this one.
