After years of pushing to add ever more channels and speakers to the soundbar concept, there seems to be an industry trend at the moment for taking soundbars back to basics. Where basics means trying to squeeze as much power and as many speakers as possible into single components designed to tuck under your TV by themselves, rather than wreaking havoc on your room decor with external wireless subwoofers and rear speakers.

Renowned audio brand Yamaha isn’t just embracing the all-in-one soundbar trend with its latest soundbar, though: At just 23.5 inches long and weighing only 1.8kg, the new B200A also happens to be the most compact Dolby Atmos soundbar the brand has ever made.

As you might expect with a Yamaha product, though, the B200A’s small frame is packed with technologies and design elements intended to ensure that it’s still able to deliver the sort of big sound that movie or gaming nights need. Its support for the Dolby Atmos 3D immersive sound format is a great start in this regard, especially as the B200A manages to include a built-in subwoofer speaker and a Bass Extension mode for handling the low frequency effects that help give movie and game mixes a sense of scale and weight.

The B200A’s front left and right speakers feature 1.8-inch cones, while the built-in subwoofer gets a three-inch cone. The left and right speakers get 20W of output power each to play with, while the subwoofer gets 30W.

The B200A carries Clear Voice technology, too, to stop dialogue becoming lost in dense movie moments, helping it avoid another common limitation of compact soundbars.

Movie, Standard, Stereo and Game preset options are provided to optimize the sound profile to different types of content at the press of a single button. The Game preset, for instance, is designed to emphasise subtle audio cues and pinpoint the origin of sounds with greater accuracy, so you can react more efficiently pick out where threats might be lurking.

The B200A carries HDMI eARC, optical and AUX wired connections, with Bluetooth available for wireless music streaming. Further convenience features find it shipping with a wall-mounting kit and controllable via its own remote control handset, your TV remote control, or the Yamaha Sound Bar Remote app for iOS and Android devices.

“The B200A was designed for people who want better sound without giving up valuable space,” says Alex Sadeghian, director of consumer audio at Yamaha. “Whether it’s a bedroom, apartment, home office or gaming setup, the B200A delivers clear, immersive sound in a compact design that’s simple to live with every day.”

Yamaha has confirmed that the B200A will be available in the U.S. in November 2026, with a launch price of $249.95.
