XGIMI Unveils New Horizon 30 Triple Laser Projector With 4K/120Hz Playback
XGIMI’s distinctive cube-shaped Horizon series of projectors has enjoyed considerable commercial and critical success since the original models launched in 2021. So households in the market for a projector with the potential to combine lifestyle looks and features with a premium gaming and movie performance in a wider variety of room environments than most projectors can cope with will be excited to hear that XGIMI has just launched a new three-strong Horizon 30 series.
The new Horizon 30 trio comprises the Horizon 30 Pro, Horizon 30 Max, and Horizon 30 Ultra Max. All three of these models are built on RGB Triple Laser DLP technology, and all three support DLP’s latest 4K/120Hz-capable chipset, where 4K feeds genuinely appear at 120Hz frame rates rather than actually only being output at 60Hz as has happened with a few previous supposedly 4K/120Hz-capable DLP projectors.
That’s far from the end of the Horizon 30 series’ gaming attractions. They also support variable refresh rates (including the AMD Freesync system), auto low latency mode switching, 240Hz refresh rates at 1080p resolution, a 1ms claimed response time when running at 240Hz, as well as Virtual Crosshairs and Black Equalizer gaming aids. The black equaliser lets you raise the brightness floor of dark parts of the picture to spot lurking enemies without making the rest of the image too bright.
All three new Horizon 30 projectors also carry built-in 2 x 12W speaker systems designed with Hi-Fi brand Harman Kardon and capable of playing DTS Virtual:X soundtracks. Giving this audio system room to breathe is a key reason for the distinctive cubic shape XGIMI’s Horizon series have always adopted.
Other features common across the Horizon 30 trio include support for the IMAX Enhanced, Filmmaker Mode and ISF ‘third party’ picture modes, support for all four of today’s main high dynamic range formats (Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10 ad HLG), +/-130% optical vertical image shift, +/-50% optical horizontal shift, and a 1.25x optical zoom delivering a 1.2-1.5:1 throw ratio.
The projectors hang in a cradle-style mount within which they can be rotated through a full 360 degrees or tilted through 135 vertical degrees, and all three models are equipped with an auto set up system capable of handling keystone correction, focus, obstacle avoidance, screen alignment and wall colour adaptation without any manual input.
Connections on each model include two 2.1 HDMI ports (both with 4K/120Hz support, one with eARC), one USB 3.0 port, one USB 2.0 port, one optical digital audio output, and one 3.5mm audio output.
Turning to the differences between each model, the flagship Horizon 30 Ultra Max is claimed to deliver a huge 6,000 ISO Lumens of peak brightness and a very promising 10,000:1 native contrast ratio; the Horizon 30 Max is claimed to deliver 5,300 ISO Lumens of brightness and a 9,000:1 native contrast ratio; while the Horizon 30 Pro claims 4,800 ISO Lumens and an 8,000:1 contrast ratio.
These numbers mean that the Horizon 30 Ultra Max delivers 5% more brightness and seven times as much native contrast as its Horizon 20 predecessor – as well as, of course, doubling the 4K refresh rate.
The Horizon 30 series will be available for pre-order from today from Xgimi.com , ahead of open sales starting on November 1. Anyone who pre-orders between now and October 31 inclusive will enjoy a significant discount on their chosen model’s final open market price. So the Horizon 30 Ultra Max will cost $2,999 (€2,999/£2,549) until October 31 inclusive, versus a final RRP of $3,499 (€3,299/£2,799); the Horizon 30 Max will cost $2,499 (€2,499/£2,099) until October 31 versus a final RRP of $2,999 (€2,799/£2,399); and the Horizon 30 Pro will cost $1,899 (€1,999/£1,699) until October 31 versus a final RRP of $2,499 (€2,499/£2,099).
U.S. buyers will also benefit from a second discount period between November 1 and November 10, where they will be able to get the Horizon 30 Ultra Max for $3,199, the Horizon 30 Max for $2,699, and the Horizon 30 Pro for $2,099.
