Dartboard maker Winmau is adding connectivity to the arrows with Autodarts: a new ecosystem that can turn a regular dartboard into an online multiplayer game without requiring a dedicated halo-style ring.

The system, which was unveiled at IFA 2026 in Berlin, is designed to take some of the hassle out of playing darts, from working out scores and checkouts to finding someone to play against.

It can also track performance over time, offer guidance during games and even referee matches.

At the center of the platform is the Autodarts app, which works with LENS - Winmau’s camera-based auto-scoring technology.

You just have to point your smartphone at any standard dartboard - it doesn’t have to be a Winmau one - and LENS can recognize where the darts have landed, allowing you to keep score without having to do the maths.

There’s a limited free version of LENS, while unlimited use is included with the Autodarts Plus subscription, which costs £5.99 per month or £59.99 for 12 months.

Once you’re set up, Autodarts can match you with players of a similar ability anywhere in the world, support games with up to six players and run tournaments throughout the day.

If nobody else is available, you can play against an AI opponent instead.

The app also provides real-time and historical statistics, suggests the best scoring areas to target and automatically works out the checkouts needed to finish a game.

An automated referee also calls the scores, giving games more of the feel of watching darts on TV (without drunk people in fancy dress).

There’s also a more serious setup for players who want to take things further; Winmau Autodarts X uses four HD cameras with PinPoint Detection technology, along with integrated 360-degree Plasma-class lighting, to deliver more accurate dart detection and additional training data.

The system clips onto a standard dartboard and stand without requiring any drilling, with Winmau claiming it can be ready to play in under two minutes, which was about how long it took for Winmau ambassador Gian van Veen to beat me when I tested it out at IFA.

Autodarts already has a sizeable community behind it, with more than 200,000 registered users and a Discord community of around 40,000 members.

Subscribers get additional features including score calling from darts referee Huw Ware, an AI referee that can independently review disputed throws, customizable digital darts, exclusive tournaments and private competitions.

The platform is launching globally in English, German and Dutch, with more features planned throughout this year and next.

Winmau says these will include new online and offline games, leagues, camera and board streaming, rewards, badges, streaks and other gamification features, while a forward-facing camera is also in development.

The Autodarts app and LENS are available now, while the Autodarts X hardware will be available to pre-order in October ahead of shipping in November.

The camera system will cost £449.99, while Winmau is also selling a tripod for £24.99 and a tripod with a 12-month subscription for £79.99.
