Marvel’s VisionQuest brings Paul Bettany back to the MCU as Vision, the android Avenger who was killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War before being rebuilt as the emotionless White Vision in WandaVision . The new Disney+ series picks up his story as he struggles to understand his identity, recover his humanity and find a new purpose in a world where he no longer quite belongs.

Vision has been living in hiding, attempting to make sense of his existence with the help of various artificial intelligence personalities embedded in his programming. These include familiar MCU assistants J.A.R.V.I.S. (James D’Arcy), F.R.I.D.A.Y. (Orla Brady) and E.D.I.T.H. (Emily Hampshire), along with the much more dangerous Ultron (James Spader), the genocidal AI responsible for creating Vision in the first place.

His search for meaning takes an unexpected turn when a bounty is placed on his head, forcing him to go on the run with a mysterious teenager named Thomas Shepherd (Ruaridh Mollica), who may be the reincarnation of his son Tommy Maximoff. Pursued by dangerous enemies and wrestling with Ultron’s influence, Vision must confront the mystery of his companion while figuring out what it really means to be human.

The series is the third and final installment in Marvel’s WandaVision trilogy, following WandaVision and Agatha All Along . Terry Matalas, best known for his work on S tar Trek: Picard and 12 Monkeys , serves as showrunner. The creator and showrunner of the previous two shows, Jac Schaeffer, executive produces the show.

Matalas, meanwhile, says that VisionQuest is “very much a direct sequel” to WandaVision , so that’s exciting. Whether we’ll see Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) or Agatha (Kathryn Hahn) in the show remains to be seen. There are a number of other characters from those two shows that could also conceivably pop up. And, of course, this could all funnel toward Avengers: Doomsday later this year.

What Time Does The VisionQuest Season Premiere Stream?

Disney+’s official schedule confirms that the eight-episode series premieres with two episodes the evening of October 13, followed by two more episodes each of the next two weeks and single episodes for the final two weeks.

What Should You Watch Before VisionQuest?

The most important series to watch beforehand is WandaVision , which introduced the rebuilt White Vision and ended with him regaining the original Vision’s memories before flying away. Agatha All Along is also relevant, particularly for its exploration of the Maximoff twins and their possible reincarnation.

For additional background, Avengers: Age of Ultron establishes Vision’s creation and his complicated relationship with Ultron, while Avengers: Infinity War depicts his death at the hands of Thanos.

Is VisionQuest Worth Watching?

I’ll have my review of the two-part VisionQuest premiere up Tuesday evening, and I’ll update this post accordingly, but at the moment the series has an 85% Rotten Tomatoes score with 33 critic reviews. That’s pretty solid.

While this could easily change as more reviews trickle in, right now that places it between Agatha All Along (84%) and WandaVision (92%). WandaVision is one of my favorite MCU shows, along with Loki and Wonder Man , though I ended up really enjoying Agatha All Along as well, especially its brilliant finale . and I’m very excited to watch this third series in the WandaVision trilogy.
