Ultraloq Unveils Three New Smart Locks With Matter, Aliro And UWB Smarts
Xthings-owned smart lock specialist Ultraloq has taken the covers off three new smart locks, adding Matter smart home compatibility with Aliro digital keys to the mix and, in the case of its flagship model, UWB-powered hands-free unlocking too.
The new range consists of the $299.99 Bolt Mission, $269.99 Bolt Pro and $249.99 Latch 5 Pro.
All three are Matter over Thread devices and, as such, will work with pretty much any smart home platform such as Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home and Samsung SmartThings, as well as more hands-on systems like Home Assistant and Homey… as long as you have a Thread Border Router in place for Matter connectivity.
Starting with the flagship, the Bolt Mission boasts ultra-wideband (UWB) technology and is designed to recognize when an authorized person is actually approaching the door.
Ultraloq says the system can use distance and direction information to tell the difference between someone approaching from outside and someone using a phone just inside the door.
You won’t need to open the app, enter a PIN or install a separate hub specifically for the hands-free functionality. Radar is also used to help the lock decide when it needs to be monitoring for an imminent arrival.
The other two lack UWB but offer up Aliro-certified digital credentials that can be stored in compatible mobile wallets.
Aliro is a new standard that went live earlier this year from the CSA, the same organization behind Matter
Matter provides the connection between the lock and your smart home platform, while Aliro looks after the digital credential used to prove that you are allowed to enter.
For Bolt Pro and Latch 5 Pro, that means a compatible smartphone or wearable can act as a digital key through services including Apple Wallet and Samsung Wallet.
As when using a payment card on your phone, you can just tap the device against the lock without opening the Ultraloq app.
Each member of a household can have their own digital key, while other users can be given alternative forms of access depending on the lock.
The Bolt Pro is the deadbolt model and combines Aliro wallet credentials with fingerprint recognition, PIN codes, app control and a physical key.
That gives you several ways of getting in, while PINs can be assigned to children, guests, cleaners and other people who need temporary or ongoing access.
The Latch 5 Pro takes the same Aliro approach but is designed for lever-style doors rather than traditional deadbolts, so is good for locations such as side entrances, home offices, garage-entry doors and rental properties.
It supports digital wallet credentials and fingerprints, with PINs available for visitors and other users.
The new Ultraloq smart lock trio is available now, direct from the brand and also from Amazon. They’ll be on sale in Home Depot later this month.
