Ultrahuman Ring Offers Workouts Tailored To Your Menstrual Cycle
Smart ring maker Ultrahuman has announced a new partnership with fitness brand Les Mills that offers tailored workouts based on your body’s current condition. It’s a software add-on for Ultrahuman ring users.
Information it employs includes which stage of the menstrual cycle the smart ring believes women to be in, and more general wellness factors, regardless of anatomy.
These are video workouts, and are delivered as part of one of Ultrahuman’s PowerPlugs, add-ons for its smart ring software platform. Other PowerPlugs track things like the wearer’s menstrual cycle, and monitor for heart health insights.
This PowerPlus is a little different to the existing ones, then, and costs $11.99 a month or $99.99 for a year.
That is significantly cheaper than you’d pay for the full Les Mills On Demand Premium Plan, which grants full access to more than 2,500 workouts, at $19.99 a month.
But how does it work? Ultrahuman says that during the “follicular or ovulatory” parts of the menstrual cycle, users will more likely be recommended higher-intensity workouts, while breezier yoga and “BodyBalance” workouts will take precedence during the luteal and menstrual phases.
You’ll see similar shifts in the intensity of workouts offered based on changes in sleep quality and duration, heart rate variability and resting heart rate.
One other interesting point here is how Ultrahuman has chosen to represent this new PowerPlug, by not dressing it up as an AI feature. “Human-led coaching, powered by real-time biometric insight,” is the company’s more grounded take on it.
Once signed up, users will see two or three recommended workouts each day, those influenced by stats recorded by an Ring Air or Ring Pro. You will also be able to browse a wider catalogue of video workouts. Taking Ultrahuman’s suggestions is not mandatory.
It’s not yet clear how large the PowerPlug’s library of video workouts will be at launch. But it also does not map directly onto the lower-cost tier of a standalone Les Mills+ Base subscription either. Ultrahuman says the library includes Bodypump workouts, which are listed as exclusive to the Premium tier on the Les Mills website.
“With Les Mills, we’re closing the loop — your ring doesn't just tell you how recovered you are, it tells you what to do about it. The right workout, at the right intensity, every day. That's what training smarter actually looks like,” says Ultrahuman CEO Mohit Kumar.
The Les Mills PowerPlug is available from today, April 22, and supports both Ultrahuman Ring Pro and Ring Air smart rings. Ultrahuman’s Ring Pro is currently available to pre-oder in the U.S., with shipping expected from May 15.
