Raul Rosas defeated Raoni Barcelos in a 5-Star main event that had a bizarre and frightening ending. Rosas and Barcelos were embroiled in a nip-and-tuck brawl. In the fourth round, Rosas had Barcelos against the cage securing a takedown. As he dragged him to the mat, Barcelos’ body went lifeless. Rosas recognized it immediately and didn’t throw a strike. Referee Herb Dean stepped in and stopped the fight. Rosas was the winner via TKO, but almost immediately concern and attention went to Barcelos who was still lying on his back against the cage. Here’s the finish. Let’s talk MMA.

Barcelos was stretchered out, reportedly still unconscious. Thankfully, medical updates arrived shortly after the end of the event saying Barcelos had regained consciousness. I have been checking for updates every 30 minutes to stay abreast of the latest. Hopefully we’ll hear even more on Sunday.

The official result is a fifth-round TKO at 1:38, credited as a slam, with Herb Dean as referee. Rosas Jr. moves to 13-1 and Barcelos to 22-6. It was Rosas Jr.’s first UFC main event and his sixth straight win. In the co-main, Ailin Perez beat Norma Dumont by unanimous decision with all three judges scoring it the same way.

The fight itself was a masterpiece. Barcelos was up on all three cards at the time of the stoppage, but it did appear Rosas had more left in the tank for the final two rounds. Who knows what would have happened if Barcelos didn’t experience the physical difficulties, but as it is, the two men easily won the Fight of the Night bonus.

The other performance bonuses went to recent Dana White Contender Series contract winner Luis Hernandez. He stepped in as a late replacement for Mickey Gall and defeated Sedriques Dumas via first-round submission. Yazmin Jauregui smashed Vanessa Demopoulos with a barrage of punches and hammerfists after the referee probably allowed the fight to last about 10 seconds longer than it should have. Here’s a look at all of the finishes from the evening and the results from the card.
