The winner takes the WBA “super” heavyweight title, per Ring Magazine. Fury enters 36-2-1 with 25 knockouts, Joshua 30-4 with 27. Principality Stadium’s retractable roof removes December weather from the equation and makes a late start workable. Both men appear together at a London press conference at British Airways Arc on Wednesday, September 30.

Joshua’s camp pushed to keep the fight in Britain while Madison Square Garden emerged as the serious alternative, and Cardiff settled it. Joshua has boxed at Principality Stadium twice, stopping Carlos Takam in October 2017 and outpointing Joseph Parker the following March to add the WBO belt. The city’s old National Stadium hosted Lennox Lewis against Frank Bruno in 1993.

Netflix doesn’t just agree to stream every event. The streaming giant only picks up the biggest sporting events and Fury-Joshua clearly qualifies. We’re also looking at the fight happening on a Friday night which isn’t a normal day for a huge fight. This one is anything but normal.

It was preceded by a nasty battle and tug-of-war over several details — including the location. Now that things have settled and the fight will take place at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, the fight will get the huge venue it warrants. That said, this isn’t Wembley. That’s the venue that would have been ideal. As it is, Cardiff is still a strong consolation. With Netflix onboard, the viewership numbers will be astronomical.
