Trump: ‘We’re Looking At’ Firing Kimberly Guilfoyle
President Donald Trump told reporters Monday his administration is considering firing Kimberly Guilfoyle, the U.S. ambassador to Greece and ex-fiancée of Donald Trump Jr. who is reportedly under investigation for alleged misconduct linked to her role.
Trump said “we’re looking at it,” when asked about Guilfoyle’s potential firing, adding, “We’re not happy.”
The Wall Street Journal reported last week Guilfoyle allegedly threatened a Greek official, accepted lavish gifts and offered to use her position of power in exchange for money that would have been used to pay down a large credit card bill.
Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are “extremely pissed off” by Guilfoyle’s alleged misconduct, an unnamed U.S. official told the Associated Press , adding the Trump administration may decide on firing her soon.
Guilfoyle’s lawyers have denied she committed any wrongdoing and claimed the money she sought from Trump donor Eric Deters was payment for legitimate services such as public appearances and speaking engagements from before her time as ambassador, according to the AP.
Deters, whom Guilfoyle allegedly asked for money from, told CBS News last week she should “lose her ambassadorship” over the alleged misconduct. “Unfortunately for Kimberly Guilfoyle, at that time, at that moment in time, I didn’t have $100,000 to spare to give to Kimberly Guilfoyle, or I actually would have been a dumba– enough to do it,” he added.
The Journal published screenshots of 2025 texts between Deters and Guilfoyle that reportedly show her trying to get money from him. “It won’t show up anywhere if you wire money to American Express that’s all that will show,” one text read. Another purported text from Guilfoyle said, “I have been officially announced honey please I need you to get this done for me today.” The reported texts were sent less than a week before Guilfoyle’s Senate confirmation hearing. She was confirmed in a slim 51-47 vote that required a procedural shortcut to go through. Prior to her work as an ambassador, Guilfoyle worked as a prosecuting attorney in California and worked with Fox News. She is also the ex-wife of Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-Calif.
Trump also claimed Ukraine and Russia have both violated an energy ceasefire announced over the weekend, pushing back against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after he said Russia continued strikes against his country’s energy assets despite the agreement. Trump, who announced the ceasefire in a Truth Social post on Sunday, told reporters on the South Portico of the White House “there’s been violations on both sides,” without providing evidence. When asked about the conflicting outcome following his announcement of the ceasefire, Trump claimed, “They agreed because I said they agreed,” though neither Russia nor Ukraine appear to have formally made a ceasefire arrangement. Zelenskyy told attendees at the Warsaw Security Forum on Monday that Russia launched a “targeted strike” against a Ukrainian power plant not long after Trump’s announcement of the ceasefire. “It was clear that Putin doesn’t read Truth Social,” Zelenskyy added.
