One of the biggest movies of the year has finally made its streaming debut. Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 is now streaming on Disney+, bringing Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the rest of the gang home just over three months after the movie opened in theaters.

The fifth Toy Story movie debuted in theaters on June 19, 2026 and arrives on Disney+ Wednesday, September 23. The movie was previously released for digital purchase on August 18, followed by its 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD release on September 22, but now you can stream it as part of your Disney+ subscription.

What Is Toy Story 5 About?

This time around, our aging (and in some cases, balding) toys face a very different sort of existential threat: technology. Maybe that sounds a little too close to the current reality we’re all facing, but that’s what makes these movies so great. They’re timeless and relevant and charming all at once.

Bonnie receives a new tablet named Lilypad, voiced by Greta Lee, and suddenly Woody, Buzz, Jessie and their friends find themselves competing with a screen for their kid’s attention. Pixar describes the movie as “Toy meets Tech,” with Lilypad disrupting both playtime and the toys’ understanding of their place in Bonnie’s life.

Jessie has taken on a larger leadership role among Bonnie’s toys, while Woody—who left the group at the end of Toy Story 4 —returns after learning that his old friends are in trouble.

Andrew Stanton directs the film, with Kenna Harris serving as co-director. Stanton and Harris wrote the screenplay from a story by Stanton. Randy Newman also returns to compose the score.

Who Is In The Toy Story 5 Cast?

Most of the franchise’s familiar voices return, including Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear and Joan Cusack as Jessie.

Greta Lee joins the cast as Lilypad, the tablet that throws the toys’ world into upheaval. Tony Hale returns as Forky, Annie Potts reprises her role as Bo Peep, Wallace Shawn returns as Rex, John Ratzenberger voices Hamm and Blake Clark is back as Slinky Dog.

The larger voice cast has some very fun additions, including Conan O’Brien, Craig Robinson, Keanu Reeves, Kristen Schaal, Bonnie Hunt, Ernie Hudson and several other newcomers and returning stars.

Is Toy Story 5 Worth Watching?

Every single Toy Story movie has over a 90% Rotten Tomatoes score, but Toy Story 5 has the lowest of the bunch, with just 93% from critics. On the other hand, audiences gave it a 94% which is tied for the highest audience score of any Toy Story movie. Here’s how the scores break down:

1. Toy Story (1995) – 100% critic score (92% audience score)

2. Toy Story 2 (1999) – 100% critic score (87% audience score)

3. Toy Story 3 (2010) – 98% critic score (90% audience score)

4. Toy Story 4 (2019) – 96% critic score (94% audience score)

5. Toy Story 5 (2026) – 93% critic score (94% audience score)

Of course, far fewer critics reviewed the earlier films and far fewer audience members have reviewed the more recent films, so all these numbers are skewed to some degree (and I’m still shocked that the excellent Toy Story 2 fared the worst with audiences, or that the original trilogy all fared worse than Toy Story 4 !)

The first two films top the Rotten Tomatoes list of highest-reviewed Pixar films, followed closely by Finding Nemo at #3, Inside Out at #4 and Toy Story 3 at #5. Of course, especially with newer films the RT score is likely to shift so these numbers are all as of this publication and could change.

Obviously, Rotten Tomatoes is just an aggregator, and the real answer to this question is “Yes, of course you should watch Toy Story 5 !” All the Toy Story movies are worth watching and this is no different. It’s just a lot more relevant to our current moment.

Where Can You Stream The Other Toy Story Movies?

All four previous Toy Story movies are also available on Disney+, making it possible to stream the entire mainline Pixar franchise in one place.

The original Toy Story was released in 1995 and became the first fully computer-animated feature film. It was followed by Toy Story 2 in 1999, Toy Story 3 in 2010 and Toy Story 4 in 2019. I’d love to see a Toy Story remake with modern animation but all the same voice acting and an unchanged script (which I’ve said about other early CGI films like Shrek as well. They’re perfect movies but animation has come so far!)
