It’s Wordle Wednesday which means I have an extra riddle for you to solve before we knock out today’s Wordle. Here’s the riddle:

“Forth” comes from Old English forþ, meaning “forward, onward, or away,” from a Germanic root related to fore and forward. Its core sense of movement outward or ahead survives in phrases like “go forth” and “so forth.”

I think it’s ironic that on my fourth guess I get the word FORTH. It’s the only way to get a word that sounds like FOURTH in five letters also. In any case, RANDO was pretty random and left me with 135 words, and SHORE cut that down to six. MORPH really wasn’t great, leaving me with three, but at least I guessed FORTH on my fourth try! I did it because I thought it was ironic so I hoped it would be that and not the other contender I came up with: WORTH.

I can’t believe the Bot got this in three! I get 0 points for guessing in four and -1 for losing to the Bot. The Bot gets 1 for beating me and 1 for guessing in three. So much for a comeback!

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!
