Three Reasons Why The iPhone X Changed The World
The iPhone X arrived on Sept. 12 2017 . By occupying the prestigious “One More Thing” slot at the end of an Apple event, Tim Cook and his team marked out the iPhone X as a generational shift in the iPhone. The tenth-anniversary flagship guided us into the next decade of smartphones: a future with no physical buttons and an all-screen destiny.

Here’s Looking At You, iPhone X
The biggest visible change was the display that reached all four edges of the iPhone. The 5.8-inch Super Retina display was the first OLED display in an iPhone, offering consumers deeper blacks and more vibrant colors on a display that drew proportionally less power. And with it going right to the edge, there was no space for a home button.
Instead of the now-iconic Touch ID-enabled home button, the iPhone X relied on gestures to trigger actions, including the home action. Without the Touch ID button, Apple needed another way to keep biometric identification on the new handset. While some Android smartphones placed fingerprint readers in side-mounted power buttons, Cook’s team had their eye on something else.
Touch ID was replaced by Face ID . With 30,000 infrared dots projected onto the user’s face, the iPhone X could read a depth chart of facial features and compare this to the encrypted key registered by the face during the device’s start-up; the increased performance of the A11 chipset brought down the recognition time to something easily accepted by the iPhone X’s owner.
The iPhone X Features That Can Be Seen Everywhere
Three key elements of the iPhone X became the de facto standard for flagship smartphones. First, the move to an edge-to-edge display with gesture navigation. Second, it used facial recognition to replace the PIN code. And finally, the price tag. Apple lifted the price of the top-tier iPhone from $650 to $999, effectively introducing four-figure pricing to premium smartphones. With Apple’s tacit permission, the market quickly followed.
