October brings in cooler weather, autumn leaves, Halloween and the onset of year-end clearance sales in the new-vehicle business. Late-season shoppers, while facing transaction prices that averaged $50,562 in September, according to Cox Automotive , can get a break on select models via some generous cash rebates.

Scoping out automakers’ websites uncovered 44 models offering rebates of $4,000 or more, which are listed below, with plenty more giving buyers cash bonuses of $1,000-$3,500. No fewer than nine models are offering incentives in the five-figure range, with the richest of the lot this month being full-electric models including the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 at $25,000 the Audi S e-tron GT quattro EV at $20,000 and the the Kia EV9 and Kia Niro EV at $10,000.

Take note that many models offer additional rebates for current owners/lessees or those driving competing-brand models. Also, automakers often grant special rebates for members of the armed forces and recent college graduates, among other groups.

However, be aware that new-vehicle incentive programs often vary by region to address local supply and demand issues, so be sure to check automakers’ websites and contact area dealerships to verify what’s being offered locally. Also, cash rebates may vary – or be excluded - depending on the trim level within a given model line, and/or may apply only to option packages.

And as always, keep in mind that such incentives all come directly from the automaker. For their part, dealers should also be willing to slash their markups to help clear stocks on slow selling models, so be sure to negotiate the transaction price separately from any cash rebate that may apply and shop around for the best bottom-line deal.
