Leading the field was Oban 15 Year Old Port Cask Finish, earning a Platinum Medal with 96 points, while six additional expressions received Gold Medal–Exceptional honors. Collectively, these whiskies demonstrate how thoughtful cask selection, patient maturation, and distinctive distillery character continue to define Scotland's greatest single malts. Oban 15 Year Old Port Cask Finish Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 55.3% ABV, 750 ml. 96 Points, Platinum Medal–Superlative

Released as part of Diageo's Special Releases collection, the Oban 15 Year Old Port Cask Finish showcases one of Scotland's smallest and oldest distilleries in an unusually rich style. After traditional maturation in refill and re-charred refill American oak casks, the whisky receives a finishing period in carefully selected port-seasoned casks. The result preserves Oban's distinctive coastal character while contributing layers of red fruit richness and sweetness.

The whiskey features aromas of fresh sea air, ripe raspberries, black cherries, orange peel, vanilla, toasted almonds, seasoned oak, and subtle maritime-inspired smoke.

It’s rich, oily, and mouth-coating on the palate, exhibiting Oban's characteristic maritime character, weight, and fruity sweetness. It showcases flavors of red berries, plum preserves, salted caramel, honey, citrus zest, dark chocolate, and subtle peat smoke, along with warming oak spices and black pepper.

The finish is exceptionally long with lingering notes of sea salt, dried fruit, gentle smoke, cinnamon, and seasoned oak.

The BevTest Judging Panel described the whisky as exhibiting “aromas of truffle honey, tangerine, and dried lavender, along with flavors of smoked white rose, roasted pistachio, and incense. Fascinating flavors of white flowers, truffle honey, and lavender crown the full-bodied base of this warming glass of Scotch; pair with a good book and comfortable chair.”

Glengoyne 21-Year-Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 43% ABV, 750 ml. 94 Points, Gold Medal–Exceptional

Glengoyne's flagship aged expression illustrates the distillery's long-standing commitment to slow distillation and exclusive sherry cask maturation. Matured entirely in hand-selected European and American oak sherry casks for more than two decades, it develops extraordinary elegance while preserving the distillery's delicate fruity spirit. Glengoyne is also notable for using Scotland's slowest stills, maximizing copper contact and producing an exceptionally refined spirit.

The whisky features rich aromas of dried figs, orange marmalade, seasoned oak, walnuts, vanilla, honey, dark toffee, and Christmas cake. It’s silky, creamy, and beautifully integrated with a pronounced mouth weight from the extended sherry maturation, showcasing flavors of raisins, dates, roasted almonds, dark chocolate, cinnamon, clove, orange peel, and rich toffee unfold in perfectly balanced layers.

The finish is long, elegant, and warming, with lingering dried fruit, espresso, oak spices, and dark chocolate.

The BevTest Judging Panel described the whisky as exhibiting “aromas of roasted pecan, pumpernickel, and violets, along with flavors of salted caramel, lemon, and honeysuckle. Layered and complex, with seamless flavors which weave caramel, chocolate, and cherries with toasted black bread and roasted salted nuts into a smooth, dry finish.”

Glengoyne 18 Year Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 43% ABV, 750 ml. 93 Points, Gold Medal–Exceptional

The 18 YO has become one of Glengoyne's benchmark expressions, showcasing the distillery's signature slow distillation and exclusive sherry cask maturation. The additional years in oak provide significantly greater complexity than the younger expressions while retaining remarkable freshness.

The whisky features aromas of baked apple, honey, vanilla, raisins, toasted hazelnuts, orange zest, and seasoned oak, along with subtle floral notes.

It’s creamy, rounded, and exceptionally well-balanced on the palate, exhibiting notable richness and Glengoyne’s characteristic mouth weight and oak integration. It showcases flavors of orchard fruits, butterscotch, dried apricot, cinnamon, roasted nuts, milk chocolate, and a persistent Sherry sweetness.

The finish is long, smooth, sweet, and gently spicy with lingering notes of vanilla, dried fruit, and seasoned oak.

The BevTest Judging Panel described the whisky as exhibiting “aromas of black walnut, lemon honey, and peanut candy, along with flavors of dried pear, and salted dark caramel. Rich, roasty and warming, this bold Single Malt will hold steadfast on its own or in an elevated stirred cocktail such as a Boulevardier or Vieux Carre.”

The Dalmore 17 Year Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 43.8% ABV, 750 ml. 92 Points, Gold Medal–Exceptional Dalmore’s 17-YO reflects the distillery's celebrated multi-cask maturation philosophy. Initial aging in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels is followed by finishing in a combination of Matusalem, Oloroso, Apostoles Sherry, and rare wine casks, creating remarkable richness while preserving Dalmore's trademark citrus and chocolate profile.

The whisky features aromas of orange zest, espresso, old leather, cinnamon, dark chocolate, roasted coffee, raisins, and seasoned oak. It’s robust and full-bodied on the palate, with a velvety texture and with The Dalmore’s signature concentration. It showcases flavors of orange marmalade, cocoa, dried figs, roasted coffee, dark cherries, cinnamon, cloves, toasted walnuts, and assorted oak spices.

The finish is long and warming with lingering notes of chocolate, espresso, dried fruit, and seasoned oak.

The BevTest Judging Panel described the whisky as exhibiting “aromas of leather, smoked honey, and green walnuts, along with flavors of toasted sesame, campfire, and honeysuckle. This is an excellent pour for an introduction to the Highland style.”

Glengoyne 15-Year-Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 43% ABV, 750 ml. 90 Points, Gold Medal–Exceptional

Positioned between the distillery's approachable younger whiskies and its luxury age-statement releases, the 15 YO benefits from full-term maturation in first-fill sherry casks, yielding exceptional richness while maintaining freshness and balance.

The whisky features aromas of fresh apple, honey, vanilla, citrus peel, toffee, raisins, and toasted almonds. It’s smooth, creamy, and approachable, showing a balanced integration of fruit and seasoned oak. It showcases flavors of pear, honeycomb, caramel, orange zest, vanilla, cinnamon, and roasted nuts supported by sweet cooked malt.

The finish is medium-long with lingering notes of fruit, subtle wood spices, and seasoned oak.

The BevTest Judging Panel described the whisky as exhibiting “aromas of lightly toasted grain, lemon honey pecan spice cake, and dried apple, along with flavors of spiced maple butter, cardamom, and caramelized peach. Beautifully balanced and elegantly manicured, the notes of lightly toasted grain and spiced honey develop on the palate into cardamom and delicious caramelized peach.”

Lagavulin 11 Year Old Sweet Peat Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 46% ABV, 750 ml. 93 Points, Gold Medal–Exceptional

Originally developed in collaboration with actor Nick Offerman, the Sweet Peat edition presents a softer, sweeter interpretation of Lagavulin's iconic Islay style. Additional maturation in heavily charred virgin oak contributes vanilla and caramel notes that complement the distillery's legendary peat smoke.

The whisky features aromas of sweet campfire smoke, vanilla, salted caramel, smoked bacon, citrus peel, sea spray, and toasted oak. It’s rich, oily, and mouth-coating on the palate with a pronounced mouth-weight and a notable balance between sweetness and smoke. It features flavors of honey, vanilla, smoked malt, lemon, sea salt, cracked pepper, charred oak, and a gentle medicinal peat smoke.

The finish is long, smoky, and warming with a distinctive sweetness and lingering notes of seasoned oak, pepper, maritime salt, and a cold campfire smoke.

The BevTest Judging Panel described the whisky as exhibiting “aromas of campfire, brisket burnt ends, and cigar ash, along with flavors of ancho chile, buckwheat honey, and burnt orange. This velvet hammer beautifully balances a powerful, complex, and nuanced smoky nose with a silky palate and a long, seamless finish.”

Tamdhu 18-Year-Old Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 46.8% ABV, 750 ml. 93 Points, Gold Medal–Exceptional

Tamdhu remains one of Scotland's few distilleries committed to exclusive maturation in Oloroso sherry casks. The 18 YO showcases the elegance achievable through carefully selected European oak seasoned in Jerez before whisky maturation. No ex-bourbon casks are used at any stage of production.

The whisky features the typical, Sherry-inspired aromas of dried fruits, walnuts, orange marmalade, cinnamon, vanilla, dark honey, seasoned oak, and milk chocolate.

It’s rich, smooth, and velvety on the palate, with a pronounced mouth weight and an unmistakable sherry influence throughout. It showcases flavors of raisins, dates, figs, orange peel, dark chocolate, roasted almonds, cinnamon, espresso, and seasoned oak.

The finish is long, sweet, and warming, with lingering notes of dried fruit, cocoa, wood spices, and seasoned European oak.

The BevTest Judging Panel described the whisky as exhibiting “aromas of iodine, dried honey granola, and wool, along with flavors of vanilla custard, sweet cherry yogurt, and allspice. Warm and lightly spiced with notes of vanilla custard and fruit, this cozy Speyside Scotch practically picks out your favorite sweater for you.”

This year's BevTest medalists highlight the remarkable stylistic diversity that has made Scotch whisky the world's benchmark for premium single malt. Oban demonstrates the elegance of coastal Highland whisky enhanced by thoughtful port cask finishing. Glengoyne continues to showcase the virtues of slow distillation and patient sherry maturation, while Dalmore illustrates the craft of multi-cask finishing. Lagavulin proves that even Islay's powerful peat can be balanced by sweetness and restraint, and Tamdhu reaffirms the continuing appeal of full-term Oloroso sherry maturation.
