Apparently, the Trimbos Institute in The Netherlands wanted to get “a head” of this trend. The Dutch drug addiction and mental health institute posted on Instagram a warning about ecstasy pills shaped as the head of U.S. President Donald Trump. The institute emphasized, “Absolutely do not use these"—meaning the pills and not Trump’s head—as they are even more dangerous than standard ecstasy pills and even more likely to kill you.

Here’s the social media post that included photos of the pills:

As you can see, the pills come in several different colors—red, blue, green and yellow. On the back of each pull is a vertical line with “NL” stamped above it and “Trump” stamped below. The NL presumably stands for The Netherlands.

Trump’s Head Has Appeared On Ecstasy Pills Before

Before you say something like, "Never seen anything like it," this wasn’t the first time such a thing has happened with Trump’s head. Back in 2017, police in Osnabrueck, Germany, seized about 5,000 ecstasy tablets worth around 39,000 euros ($45,900) during a highway check, as reported by the AP at the time . These pills were also in the shape of Trump’s head and, by the way, were colored orange.

Ecstasy Pills Without Trump’s Head Are Already Dangerous

Now, standard ecstasy pills are already dangerous, regardless of their shape. It’s not as if your doctor will tell you, “You really should be taking ecstasy.” In fact, Googling “Where is ecstasy legal” will return “recreational ecstasy is not fully legal anywhere in the world” and potentially change Google’s profile of you. The only exception is strict and limited medical use for particular conditions in certain countries.

The active ingredient in ecstasy is typically methylenedioxymethamphetamine or MDMA for short. This chemical stimulates your central nervous system to release high levels of dopamine—the brain chemical associated with pleasure and reward. That’s why MDMA can give you a feeling of euphoria—you know that intense feeling happiness that you experience only when you see a plate of sushi.

I’ve written about MDMA and ecstasy before in Forbes . The effects of MDMA begin to kick in around 20 to 60 minutes after taking it and last for least three to four hours. Besides the euphoria, you can feel energetic, confident and very affectionate towards others and even had hallucinations—which can be very bad if you are around people whom you really shouldn’t be sleeping with in any way.

But ending up in bed with the wrong people is not the only potential bad side effect. There’s also sweating, overheating, dehydration, jaw clenching, teeth grinding, limb tingling, nausea, vomiting, muscle aches, elevated blood pressure, racing heart rates, anxiety, panic attacks, paranoia, irrational behaviors and psychosis.

The overheating and dehydration alone can be fatal. What can also be dangerous is drinking too much water to combat the overheating and dehydration. Overdoses of MDMA bring additional risks of confusion, convulsions, delirium and death. And when you are in a state of euphoria, moderating your intake of MDMA may not be first on your mind.

The PMMA Makes These Trump’s Head Ecstasy Pills Even More Dangerous

What makes these new Trump’s head ecstasy pills even more dangerous begins with “P”—namely “para.” Instead of MDMA, these pills contain PMMA, which is short for para-methoxymethamfetamine. These chemicals are similar, except that PMMA works slower.

This can cause more than a “para” problems, so to speak. When you’re not experiencing the euphoria as soon as expected, the inclination may be to take even more sooner. That then further raises the risk of overdosing. And overdosing, once again, can lead to all sorts of problems like coma and death.

In general, the pleasure that you may get from taking ecstasy pills do not trump the risks. This is especially true if you see any shaped like Trump’s head. The potential agony won’t be worth the ecstasy.
