To commemorate the 40th anniversary of Dragon Quest , there’s a new exhibition and VR ride called The Dive , and it’s a lot of fun.

I was able to have a go on the VR ride and walk around the exhibition, and for the latter, it covers all the major Dragon Quest games and has various famous characters and swords from each.

The highlight is the VR ride, which has you sit in a motion-controlled chair as you initially ride a Great Sabrecat guided by a Healslime called Homita, who is voiced by Yui Ogura.

As you would expect from a VR ride like this, you fly through the world of Dragon Quest and zoom past various famous enemies, pretty thick and fast.

The ride ends with you facing the first-phase version of Psaro the Manslayer from Dragon Quest IV , with Homita’s rusty sword transforming into the Zenithian sword to save the day.

After the ride, there are some fun interactive things, like a chest that opens up and gives you a random pickup, with mine giving a rare Metal slime sword .

You also have an interactive Ra’s Mirror that turns you into a Dragon Quest monster as your “true form”, and another camera setup that converts you into a game character (I was obviously a bartender on account of my facial hair).

There were various life-size swords on display, such as the Zenithian sword and the Sword of Light from Dragon Quest XI .

All in all, it was a fun exhibition, and the VR ride was really well done. There were lots of families attending the exhibition, too. So it was really interesting to see young kids, who are clearly into all the old Dragon Quest games, were calling out the names of all the monsters as you flew past them on the VR ride.

The event is held at the Harakado building in Omotesando, and tickets are available on the online site . You will need to book beforehand, as you cannot show up without a pre-purchased ticket.
