Tengo Project’s Next Retro Reboot Will Be ‘Final Mission’
The classic NES shmup Final Mission will be the next to get the Tengo Project treatment, and a demo will be playable at this year’s Tokyo Game Show.
Originally released back in 1990 for the SNES, the Natsume shmup had you play as airborne cyborgs thwarting an alien invasion of Earth.
Developed by Natsume, it was later released overseas with the rather unfortunate name of S.C.A.T.: Special Cybernetic Attack Team .
Like many NES games of the era, Final Mission is rightly praised for its excellent shmup gameplay and fantastic music, so it feels like a great fit for a remaster by Tengo Project.
If you’re new to Tengo Project’s impressive expertise, then I strongly recommend you check out the genuinely excellent Shadow of the Ninja Reborn .
It’s a really beautifully made update to another classic NES game, so I have suitably high hopes for Final Mission .
This new remaster of Final Mission also looks incredible, with the new trailer (shown below) giving a solid look at how the gameplay will work.
The two-player co-op play from the original NES game also looks to be fully intact, which is also great to see.
While there is no release date for this Final Mission remaster as yet, not what platforms it will be released on. The game will be playable at this year’s Tokyo Game Show, and I definitely plan to check it out.
