SwitchBot has unveiled yet another new smart lock at IFA 2026, one that seems determined to make sure you can get into your house by absolutely any means necessary, with 19 unlock methods on offer.

The SwitchBot Lock Ultra Max Vision Pro Combo - to give it its full meaty moniker - essentially teams up the new Lock Ultra Max with the existing Keypad Vision Pro, with a Matter-enabled Hub Mini thrown in the box as well.

If the name sounds familiar then that’s because SwitchBot already has the SwitchBot Lock Ultra Vision Pro Combo on sale… it’s the Max lock element that’s new for the IFA 2026 launch.

For those not familiar with SwitchBot’s smart lock range, you’re looking at a retrofit smart lock with features like facial recognition, palm-vein scanning, fingerprint recognition, NFC, passcodes and, for those who still enjoy living dangerously, an actual key.

The 19 unlock ways may sound like overkill but includes things like unlocking using the app, voice commands, a smartwatch, widgets, geofencing, remote control and Home Sharing.

The Keypad Vision Pro, which went live earlier this year, uses 3D facial recognition to identify users in less than a second, and its palm-vein scanner offers a contactless alternative to fingerprints.

I’ve been using one for a few weeks now and the palm vein option is a lot more reliable than a fingerprint scanner, especially in wet weather.

The facial recognition system projects more than 30,000 infrared points to build a 3D map of your face and it can also work in low light and is designed to repel photo and video spoofing.

The Lock Ultra Max itself boasts a significant speed bump over the existing Lock Ultra, with a brushless motor spinning up to 160rpm, and a Max Mode capable of unlocking the door in just over a second.

It also generates more than 9kg of turning force, which should help with the slightly less-than-svelte lock mechanisms found on plenty of European doors.

Like SwitchBot’s previous smart locks, it’s a retrofit system, so you don’t need to rip out your existing cylinder or start drilling holes in your front door. The lock sits on the inside and operates the existing mechanism, with support for common European cylinders as well as UK oval locks.

The 4,200mAh rechargeable battery is slated for up to nine months of typical use, while a separate CR123A battery provides a backup, should you forget to charge.

If all else fails there’s also a Micro-Power Unlock that can harvest residual energy for around 30 seconds and provide up to five emergency unlocks.

The Keypad Vision Pro has its own 5,000mAh battery, rated for up to 12 months, and only fires up its biometric hardware when it detects someone approaching.

It’s a shame there’s no “native” Matter action here - like you’d get with the likes of Aqara (and no mention of Apple Home Key or Aliro) - but the bundled Hub Mini does add Matter over Bridge support, meaning multi smart home ecosystem compatibility.

The SwitchBot Lock Ultra Max Vision Pro Combo is available to pre-order in the UK and Europe for £339.99 / €339.99.

That’s definitely not cheap, but you’re getting the lock, biometric keypad and Matter-enabled hub in one package.
