In a rather nice bit of news, Star Fox 64 is getting a new remake this June for the Switch 2, and it looks very shiny indeed.

In an all-new Nintendo Direct (shown below), the remake of Star Fox 64 , simply titled Star Fox , gets a pretty thorough breakdown.

For anyone counting, since the original Star Fox 64 was released in 1997, we’ve had the game remade for the 3DS with Star Fox 64 3D and on the Wii U with Star Fox Zero .

The latter was more of a reimagining of Star Fox 64 and had a much wider array of functionality, and was expertly made by those talented people at Platinum Games.

So to have Star Fox 64 remade a third time is certainly a bit excessive, but it is with good reason.

For one, Star Fox 64 is arguably one of the best games in the Star Fox series, and for another, Fox McCloud was recently featured in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie .

When I spoke with Shigeru Miyamoto and Chris Meledandri about the film, they were keen to point out that adding Star Fox was something they thought a great deal about.

No doubt, because they also knew that an updated remake of Star Fox 64 was in the works, which makes for some very slick marketing, considering that it was featured in the movie.

Fans have already taken to social media to comment on the new and eerily realistic versions of the game’s cast, and the addition of a new prologue showing in part what happened to Fox McCloud’s father, James , is also a nice touch.

In any case, I will definitely be checking this game out once it’s available, and I am almost certain it will play great.

This new Star Fox game will be released on June 25 for the Switch and will cost $49.99.
