British subscription broadcaster Sky has rolled out a major update to its long-running Sky Go app for Sky Glass and Sky Stream customers, adding significant new features and a welcome performance upgrade.

Taking its cues more from the look and feel of the Sky OS found on Sky Glass TVs and Sky Stream streaming boxes, the new Sky Go app is designed to make it easier to move between your main screen and your mobile or tablet when consuming Sky content. So, for instance, the new app journey starts with a new navigation bar that makes the app’s Home screen, TV Guide, “My Library”, Sport and Search Sky OS areas easier to reach, while the Sky Go Home screen now makes it easy to explore the best of Sky movies, TV shows, sport and kid’s content.

Here’s a full list of every new feature the updated Sky App provides:

  1. Continue Watching. This allows you to find recently watched shows in one easy-to-access row, as well as letting you pick up where viewing of a show was left off across your TV, mobile and tablet devices (so long as the particular content provider involved supports this).
  2. My Library. This new area in the Sky Go app is your go-to place for finding available shows, movies and sport programmes that you’ve either saved for later, downloaded, set to record on TV, or watched recently.
  3. Set Recording. This is arguably my personal favourite of the new Sky Go content management features. It lets you hit record on live TV and sports events while you’re away from home, so that the content is immediately ready to watch on Sky Glass and Sky Stream devices as soon as you get home.
  4. Full HD Streaming. This is another very welcome and (given Sky’s long form when it comes to delivering premium picture quality for its TV services) arguably overdue feature for Sky Go, enabling you to watch Sky’s content in resolutions up to 1080p full HD on compatible devices and connections.
  5. Enhanced Sport features. The Sky Go app now provides a dedicated Sport section which lets you search by sport, follow your favourite Premier League teams and quickly see what sorting events are both live right now and coming up next.
  6. Inspired by Sky OS. The growing disconnect between the layout and look of the old Sky Go app and the ever-evolving Sky Glass and Sky Stream OS is addressed by the new Sky Go layout and design, delivering a more familiar Sky OS experience on mobile and tablets.

Sky Glass and Stream customers can download the updated Sky Go (Glass/Stream) app now from the iOS App Store, or Google Play. Sky has also revealed that Sky Glass and Stream customers will soon be able to access the new version of the Sky Go app on their laptops.

Sky Q customers, meanwhile (as in, Sky customers who still get their Sky services over satellite dish) can continue using the Sky Go (Q/+) app, giving them access to live and on-demand TV, films and sport across devices, and remote recording. Subscribers with Sky Q Multiscreen can additionally download recordings directly from their Sky Q box to watch when they’re not at home.
