Serena and Venus Williams have received a wild card entry into the 2026 U.S. Open Women’s Doubles Championship.

The Williams sisters have played doubles together at the U.S. Open nine times (1997, ‘99, 2000-01, ‘09, ‘12-14, ‘22), going 27-7 and winning both the 1999 and 2009 titles. Serena played in the U.S. Open’s Mixed Doubles Championship on Tuesday with Carlos Alcaraz, where they reached the quarterfinals.

The Williams sisters received a wild card to play doubles at Wimbledon, but they withdrew before playing their first-round match due to a knee injury Serena sustained during her singles match.

They then play at the Cincinnati Open, losing their first match to Marta Kostyuk and Peyton Stearns.

Serena, 44, will not play singles in the women’s draw, as Sofia Kenin, the 2020 Australian Open champion, received the final singles Wild Card.

Serena has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, including six at the U.S. Open. She last singles played at the Open in 2022, losing a third-round singles match to Ajla Tomljanović 7-5, 6-7(4), 6-1. At the time, she said she was “evolving away from tennis” to focus on her family.

Venus was already granted a Wild Card into this year’s singles draw amid much criticism because of her poor singles results in recent years.

Serena made her return to the singles court at Wimbledon after nearly four years off, losing in the first round to Australia’s Maya Joint 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-3 in the first round.

After initially not granting a wild card to three-time Grand Slam and 2016 U.S. Open men’s singles champion Stan Wawrinka, the U.S. Open announced Wednesday he will receive one.

Patrick Kypson (USA), previously awarded a main draw wild card, withdrew with an injury.

“I’m incredibly excited to accept the wild card for the 2026 US Open and look forward to competing in front of the fans in New York once again," Wawrinka said.
