Samsung To Unveil Smart Glasses In Weeks, Beating Apple, Report Claims
Samsung is about to unveil a set of AI-capable smart glasses, a new report claims. If the report is accurate, it would almost certainly beat Apple to market with such a product.
Of course, Apple has never publicly stated that it’s working on smart glasses, while Samsung has confirmed that it’s a product that is in development.
Will There Be A July Galaxy Unpacked Event In London?
“Samsung Electronics (005930.KS) is expected to hold its second-half product launch event, ‘Galaxy Unpacked,’ in London this July, where it will unveil its next-generation foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Flip8, along with its first smart glasses, tentatively named ‘Galaxy Glasses.’ ” Seoul Economic Daily reported.
The report claims the event will be on July 22 in London — though neither place nor time has been confirmed by Samsung.
Collaborations With Fashion Eyewear Brands
Samsung is known to be working with eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, just as Meta worked with EssilorLuxotica to create the highly successful Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta and other models. This is a key detail: neither Meta nor Samsung is known as a fashion eyewear company, so a stylish collaboration is important.
The smart glasses are to run on Google’s Android XR operating system, already in place on the Samsung Galaxy XR headset, and is expected to have Gemini integration.
“Likely to be officially launched in the third quarter, the model consists only of speakers, microphones, and a high-definition camera, with no separate display,” the report went on.
A Growing Galaxy AI Ecosystem
Samsung has the considerable advantage that it has a whole ecosystem, so it’s likely it will integrate smart glasses with its Galaxy smartphones, Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Ring, for instance.
A Busy Summer For Samsung
Assuming the report is accurate, it looks like Galaxy Unpacked will be a busy event. Alongside the regular folding phones (Z Fold and Z Flip series), it’s thought the company will reveal its first wide folding phone, just weeks before Apple releases its first folding phone, possibly called the iPhone Ultra.
