Small businesses make up 44% of U.S. GDP, employ nearly half the private-sector workforce, and still treat AI like a chat window. They open their favourite LLM, ask a question, copy the answer, and paste it somewhere else. The work still happens in QuickBooks. The work still happens in PayPal. The work still happens in HubSpot. They’re not connected.

That changed this month. Anthropic launched Claude for Small Business , a package of connectors and ready-to-run workflows that puts Claude inside the tools you already pay for. Toggle it on inside Claude Cowork, connect QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, Canva, DocuSign, Google Workspace, and Microsoft 365, and pick the job. Claude does the work. You approve before anything sends, posts, or pays.

I built Coachvox with a tiny team across three countries. The only way that works out is when AI handles the operational work that used to need a full-time hire. It's now possible for your small business to create the output of one three times the size. Here's a look at what the new suite does, and what it means if you run a small business.

How Claude's new update runs your business from one tab

Manage accounts without it taking all day

Payroll is the task that eats a whole evening every two weeks. You log into QuickBooks, check the cash position, log into PayPal and Stripe, check what's cleared, do the maths in your head, and process wages.

Payment chasing is similar. Hours spent on something that shouldn’t be you. With Claude for Small Business, you ask once. It pulls the cash position from QuickBooks, reconciles it against PayPal settlements, ranks overdue invoices that could close the gap, and drafts a reminder email for each one. You approve and send.

This is the same workflow you'd pay a fractional CFO $800 a month to run, except it runs in twelve minutes and the founder still makes every call. It also reconciles your books against PayPal settlements, flags what doesn't match, writes a plain-English P&L, and exports a close packet you forward straight to your accountant.

Run a sales campaign without opening five tools

Every marketing campaign used to mean opening HubSpot to check pipeline, opening QuickBooks to find your slow stretch, opening a doc to draft the promo, opening Canva to design the assets, opening your email tool to schedule the send. Five tabs, five logins, five context switches, and a whole day gone.

Now, Claude finds the slow stretch in your revenue, analyses your HubSpot campaign performance, drafts the promo strategy, and generates the assets in Canva. You review and approve.

The campaign that used to take at least a day takes 45 minutes. The skill you need is knowing what a good campaign looks like and being willing to say no to the draft when it's off. Then improving the system for the next time it runs.

Train yourself before you train the AI

Practice is what makes you AI-fluent. Anthropic partnered with PayPal on a free online course called AI Fluency for Small Business, taught by owners who've already built AI into their operations.

Amy Bonitatibus, chief corporate affairs officer at PayPal, said the partnership is about "equipping these business owners and entrepreneurs with the tools, expertise, and trusted infrastructure they need to compete and thrive in a rapidly evolving digital economy."

The owners who get an edge from this launch will be the ones who put two hours into learning what these workflows can do before they need them. Block the time. Watch a module. Run one workflow on a real task in your business. Then run a second. Treat it like a new hire, with a clear job, a short feedback loop, and a willingness to course-correct.

The next 12 months of running your business from one tab

Daniela Amodei, co-founder and president of Anthropic, said at launch that "people run the business, and Claude helps take the late-night work off their plates." Now you're free to go out for dinner.

Anthropic's research found half of small business owners named data security as their single biggest hesitation about AI. The new suite claims to address it: every task is initiated by you, every existing permission you have in your tools still applies, and Anthropic doesn't train on your data by default on Team and Enterprise plans.

Connect the tools you use and send a support request for more connections. Build automations around your existing business before you look to add more. Save time every week doing tasks a robot could do.
