A woman who can see the future discovers that remembering her visions can change it. If that’s not a great concept for a new game, I don’t know what is. If you’re still in any doubt, it’s the plot of Precognition , from Immortality creator Sam Barlow, whose hands are among the safest in the business.

Precognition is a live-action sci-fi horror game from Barlow’s Half Mermaid Productions and UK indie outfit Kinetic Publishing . Barlow is also working with filmmaker Brandon Cronenberg to co-develop the story. Precognition was originally teased back in 2024 under the working title Project C as part of Blumhouse Games’ ambitious debut line-up, though it seems to be firmly off the company’s cards now, if its website is anything to go by .

Players are placed in the world of Diana, who develops the ability to receive visions of the future after an experimental implant is embedded in her brain. Precognition explores them by focusing on major moments, letting Diana commit details to memory in the present, at the potential cost of consequences: remembering something from the future changes it, creating alternate timelines. It highlights a huge opportunity for multiple playthroughs — and Barlow has promised that he’s not holding back.

While there’s no footage or trailer, Barlow, Cronenberg, and producer Natalie Watson have shed light on Precognition in comparison to Immortality and Her Story , and it only makes the whole thing more intriguing. Kinetic’s entire showcase followed this format, and to be fair, as so many devs get swept away by job losses, it’s nice to see the publisher place the focus on the people making the games.

“We’ve really been trying to test the limits of non-linear storytelling, focusing on how the game feels to play, while encouraging player agency and freedom,” he said. “We’ve pushed ourselves even harder with Precognition by bringing the feel of investigation and mystery games into a world of cause-and-effect, with a story that spins out as a consequence of your choices.

“We wanted Precognition to be a very authentic sci-fi horror experience, and in the process of searching for collaborators on the project, Brandon stood out as the perfect person for the job. Brandon had already played Immortality and Her Story , so he immediately understood the nature of the game and the unique narrative structure we bring to everything we make”.

“The films I make tend to be subjective and experiential, with the horror emerging as one person’s perspective of the world warps around them,” said Cronenberg. “The games that Sam and the team have made over the years are subjective experiences by their very nature; no two people will have the same experience with them. So it’s the perfect place to explore these themes further”.

Precognition is planned for release in Spring 2028, and it’s automatically on my wishlist.

But that’s not all from Kinetic Publishing

Kinetic Publishing also has another four intriguing games in the pipeline, but like Precognition , you’ll have to wait a little while for them:

Contact Protocol (Spring 2027), from Cold Zephyr Games

A starship job simulator that puts players in charge of assessing approaching vessels, cross-checking their paperwork and deciding whether to let them pass or fire torpedoes. Expect pressure, moral choices and procedural encounters where mistakes can have serious consequences.

Crescent County (Summer 2028), by Electric Saint

A cozy open-world adventure set on the magical Isle of Mor, where players deliver parcels by motorbroom, race friends, build relationships, get caught up in local drama, and explore a painterly witch-tech world. It’s my personal favorite on this mini-list.

Shellbound (Summer 2028), from Fake Lobster Games

A metroidvania played as a parasite traveling across the back of a giant, god-like snail. Players can take control of enemies and use their abilities to explore, fight, and solve puzzles, while the creature’s biology changes the world in response to their actions.

Aether Wizard Life (Autumn 2028), by Vonder Games

A life sim set in the haunted town of Starfell, where players can grow magical crops, care for creatures, explore dungeons, learn different schools of magic, and build relationships with townsfolk. Players can also customize a walking castle and investigate a mystery involving missing wizards.
