Plugable’s Latest Thunderbolt 5 Dock Supports Dual HDMI 2.1 Screens
Docking specialist Plugable Technologies has taken the covers off its latest Thunderbolt 5 docking station. The TBT-UDH2 is a 16-in-1 docking station and the first of its kind to feature dual HDMI 2.1 ports for driving two 8K 60Hz or 4K 144Hz displays.
First unveiled at CES 2026, the TBT-UDH2 is now shipping and is being aimed at video editors, designers, IT administrators and hybrid workers looking a single-cable solution that drives two high-resolution displays natively, without the need for dongles or adapters.
Until now, most Thunderbolt 5 docks on the market followed a similar specification because they adhered to Intel’s reference design, consisting of three downstream Thunderbolt ports, but no dedicated video output. This specification has forced anyone using HDMI to connect their displays to buy additional adapters for a dual-monitor setup.
The TBT-UDH2 now eliminates that friction by adding dual HDMI 2.1 ports, with support for two 8K 60Hz or 4K 144Hz screens. The dock’s plug-and-play compatibility and dongle-free video output make it suitable for use with both Mac and Windows running color-critical workflows or multi-display configurations. For more expansive display options, M5 Pro and Max users can add a third display to one of the downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports.
“For years, high-performance docks have prioritized DisplayPort while HDMI users were left relying on adapters and compromises,” says Bernie Thompson, CTO of Plugable. “We built the TBT-UDH2 bristling with high-performance ports that show off Thunderbolt 5’s massive bandwidth, including more HDMI 2.1 and USB-C ports that are often lacking in other docks. As modern work gets more complex and faster, this is the dock you need to make the absolute most of your laptop.”
Beyond its dual-display capabilities, the TBT-UDH2 is also a full-featured docking station Using a single Thunderbolt 5 cable, it can deliver up to 140W of power to the host laptop while maintaining 80/120Gbps of data bandwidth. The front of the dock provides quick access to power and data with two 30W charging ports — one 10Gbps USB-C and one Thunderbolt 5 — an additional 10Gbps USB-C port, a 10Gbps USB-A port for legacy devices, plus a 3.5mm headset jack.
The dock also has full-size and microSD 4.0 card readers for quick media offloads, while at the rear, there are two HDMI 2.1 ports, three extra USB-C ports, two USB-A ports, 2.5 gigabit Ethernet, plus a Thunderbolt host connection that delivers 140W host charging to a host laptop.
The new dock is TAA-compliant and comes wrapped in space grey aluminum. It’s a fanless dock for silent operation and can be positioned vertically or horizontally to best fit the user’s available desk space. A certified Thunderbolt 5 cable and 180W AC power adapter are also included in the box.
Built For Mac and Windows
The TBT-UDH2 is compatible with Thunderbolt 5, Thunderbolt 4 and USB4 laptops, which should cover a broad range of Apple Silicon Macs and Windows systems. The dock has also achieved Intel’s Engineered for Intel Evo Edition laptop accessory verification. This means it’s been co-engineered, tested and validated to meet Intel’s standards for connectivity, reliability and user experience when used with Intel Evo systems.
For IT teams managing a mixed fleet of computers, the broad compatibility of the new docking stations means they would could standardize on one dock to work across an organization, matching hardware to host.
As Thunderbolt 5 adoption grows in both consumer and enterprise hardware, the TBT-UDH2 is designed to grow with it. Whether a user is upgrading from an older Thunderbolt 4 machine today or standardizing on Thunderbolt 5 laptops on the next refresh cycle, the TBT-UDH2 is designed to perform without rethinking a corporation’s entire desk setup.
