It’s Wednesday, and you know what that means: it’s time for another round of Connections !

It took me several years of dithering but folks, I have relented and finally bought an air fryer. I saw a deal that was too good to pass up during a certain recent sale by a certain major online retailer. I have seen the light.

I’m cooking a little bit more than I have over the last few years, because I grew tired of getting the same old options through the meal delivery I was using. I do not like cooking – life would be so much easier if I did! This thing has made certain aspects of cooking much easier. Even though I had to rearrange a bunch of things to make space for it, I’m very glad to now have an air fryer on my kitchen counter.

Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Wednesday, July 8 are coming right up. Let’s get rolling!

Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase

Connections is a free daily New York Times game that challenges you to arrange a grid of 16 words, phrases or symbols into four groups. The categories can involve anything from simple synonyms and cultural references to words that start with homonyms for birds.

There’s only one correct answer. Connections often features red herrings and other tricks like wordplay. You can make three mistakes, but a fourth spells game over and the end of your current streak!

The categories are color coded. Yellow is supposed to be the easiest to figure out, followed by green, blue and then purple. But it’s all relative as Connections tests your knowledge and deductive reasoning skills.

You can track your stats over time and earn badges for achievements like lengthy streaks or achieving a reverse rainbow. This involves submitting the purple category first, followed by blue, green and yellow. I’m here to help players figure out which is which.

You can play Connections on the NYT website or NYT Games app. NYT subscribers can access the full archive of more than 1,100 games of Connections . Each day’s game goes live at midnight local time.

What Is The Answer For Connections Today?

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.

This is your last chance to look away.

This is your final warning!

Today’s Connections answers are...

🟨 Yellow group — cut into thin pieces (GRATE, PLANE, SHAVE, SLIVER)

🟩 Green group — motif (DRIFT, PLOT, THEME, THREAD)

🟦 Blue group — guitar-playing techniques (PICK, PLUCK, STRUM, TAP)

🟪 Purple group — house of _____ (CARDS, LORDS, WAX, WORSHIP)

My first thought was that PLANE and WAX might partner for "soul ____" phrases, but I didn't see anything else that worked. After I shifted focus from that, I got the blues quickly. I thought for a second that might be a red herring, since we had a guitar accessory group recently, but I had to try it anyway.

The greens were up next for me. No issues there. At that point, what I assumed had to be the yellows became clear. I rushed to submit those, forgetting that I typically send through what I believe to be the purples first in such situations. Never mind, the reverse rainbow wasn't on anyway.

With the purples all sitting neatly on the same line, the category then became apparent to me. I then submitted them for a 493rd win in a row.

How did you get on this time? Here's my grid:

P.S. Continuing this little run of recommendations from bands in my neck of the woods, here's a tune from Poolgirl, who describe themselves as "a five-piece rock/riot grrl punk band."

It took me about half a second to realize the video for "Charity" was shot here. It's a fun song too:

Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other! Call someone you love!
