It’s Wednesday, and you know what that means: it’s time for another round of Connections !
I finally got around to watching Obsession over the weekend. I mostly dug it. Although it was clear where things were going for the most part, the execution in the key moments from director Curry Barker, the cast and the crew was terrific.
Other than Inde Navarrette’s tremendous performance, what struck me the most about the film (without wanting to spoil anything) was its depiction of the thin line between cowardice and abuse. It tells a horrifically bleak story. Even so, I think there was an even more devastating direction the filmmakers could have gone with the ending.
Anyway, on that sunny note, today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Wednesday, July 15 are coming right up. Let’s get rolling!

Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase
Connections is a free daily New York Times game that challenges you to arrange a grid of 16 words, phrases or symbols into four groups. The categories can involve anything from simple synonyms and cultural references to words that start with homonyms for birds.
There’s only one correct answer. Connections often features red herrings and other tricks like wordplay. You can make three mistakes, but a fourth spells game over and the end of your current streak!
The categories are color coded. Yellow is supposed to be the easiest to figure out, followed by green, blue and then purple. But it’s all relative as Connections tests your knowledge and deductive reasoning skills.
You can track your stats over time and earn badges for achievements like lengthy streaks or achieving a reverse rainbow. This involves submitting the purple category first, followed by blue, green and yellow. I’m here to help players figure out which is which.
You can play Connections on the NYT website or NYT Games app. NYT subscribers can access the full archive of more than 1,100 games of Connections . Each day’s game goes live at midnight local time.

What Is Today’s Connections Answer?
Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.
This is your last chance to look away.
This is your final warning!
Today’s Connections answers are...
- 🟨 Yellow group — terms for the legal system (BAR, BENCH, COURT, TRIBUNAL)
- 🟩 Green group — things with laces (BASEBALL GLOVE, CORSET, FOOTBALL, SHOE)
- 🟦 Blue group — kinds of sports (EXTREME, MOTOR, RACKET, WATER)
- 🟪 Purple group — words before "room" to indicate extra space (BREATHING, ELBOW, HEAD, WIGGLE)
The yellows were up first, thanks to TRIBUNAL and BAR. BREATHING, ELBOW and WIGGLE then helped me put the purples together. I forgot "head room" was an expression, somehow.
EXTREME lends itself to sports, which was enough to help me deduce the blues. and then SHOE belatedly made the green category crystal clear. That brings this deeply arbitrary and ultimately futile streak I'm on to 500 wins in a row.
How did you get on this time? Here's my grid:
No NYT Connections Answers Explained column from me today, folks. The category titles pretty much handle things for us there. There was a red herring of RACKET, ELBOW, SHOE and COURT. All can complete the phrase "tennis ___" quite neatly. Very apt, given that Wimbledon just finished.
Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for hints and the answer for tomorrow’s game of Connections if you need them.
P.S. Let’s keep on with our “rad covers I just discovered of songs I love" theme week. “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk is the sound of the summer (check it out if you get the chance!). Back in 2013, Daughter offered up a downbeat, atmospheric and slightly jazzy take on the classic. This is fantastic:
Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other! Call someone you love!
