If you’re looking for the October 4 Connections hints and answers, we’ve got you covered right here.

Hey there, Connectors! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Here’s to a great week. Perhaps this song will help you get it started on a positive note.

I like to kick off the Monday editions with a fun song for that very reason. Fingers crossed that “Common People” by Pulp will do the trick for you. It’s a classic:

Before we start, we’ve got a lovely community on Discord , where we chat about Connections , the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of things. You’re more than welcome to join us!

Also, my weekend editions of this column are available over on my newsletter, Pastimes . I sometimes write about other things that are on my mind there as well.

Today’s NYT Connections Answer

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.

This is your last chance to look away.

This is your final warning!

Today’s Connections answers are...

  • 🟨 Yellow group — calm (CONTENT, PEACEFUL, PLACID, SERENE)
  • 🟩 Green group — adjectives for mature content (EXPLICIT, GRAPHIC, STRONG, SUGGESTIVE)
  • 🟦 Blue group — kinds of boards (ADVISORY, CHESS, IRONING, MESSAGE)
  • 🟪 Purple group — ending in ways to temporarily acquire (PARENT, PLEASE, SAPPHIRE, SLOAN)

I enjoyed the reference to parental advisory labels on the top line. You know, like this:

I knew that was unlikely to be a group, though, so I started hunting elsewhere. GRAPHIC fed into EXPLICIT, which helped me get the greens.

The yellows were next up. No real problem there, but the different meanings and pronunciations of CONTENT threw me off for a second.

I assumed there was some wordplay going on with SLOAN and as I looked at the end of that word, the purples soon became clear (referring to rent, lease, hire and loan). That left the blues, and I was able to deduce the category before sliding those through and completing my 582nd win in a row.

How did you get on this time? Here’s my grid:
