Hey there, Connectors! Welcome to my deeper dive into today’s Connections answers. The idea behind this is to help clear things up for anyone who isn’t sure how today’s groups fit together.

If I’ve missed any red herrings or misunderstood something, let me know via email or on Discord . I don’t typically look at X or check the comments here.

I’m going to assume that you’ve already beaten today’s game. We’re going straight into spoiler territory here. So, consider this your one and only warning .

Here are today’s NYT Connections answers explained (and any red herrings I spot) for Thursday, April 30:

Today’s NYT Connections Answers Explained

Connections – Yellow Group

🟨 unnerve (ALARM, DISTURB, SHAKE, SHOCK)

These are all synonyms for words that mean to disrupt normality for someone. It could refer to an event that causes them to worry, panic and so one.

Connections – Green Group

🟩 remove, as an item from a list, with "off" (CHECK, CROSS, MARK, TICK)

Straightforward here, thanks to the category title.

🟦 what "T" might stand for (TESLA, TIME, TRUE, TYRANNOSAURUS)

TESLA uses a “T” symbol as its logo:

“T” can refer to a target TIME that a countdown is leading up to. For instance, in the 10 seconds before a rocket launch, you might hear someone say “T-minus 10, nine, eight…” After launch, it’s the opposite. T + five minutes means five minutes after the launch.

I’m not totally sure about the background of “T” meaning TRUE, so if you can enlighten me or have any theories, please let me know! My best guess is that “TRUE or false” is sometimes abbreviated to “T or F.”

As for TYRANNOSAURUS, that’s the "T’ in the dinosaur T. rex.

Connections – Purple Group

🟪 homophones of possessive adjectives (HOUR, HUR, THERE, YORE)

  • HOUR > our
  • HUR > her
  • THERE > their
  • YORE > your

Connections – Red Herrings

I didn’t catch any red herrings this time. Please enlighten me if you did!
