Here’s the finished puzzle in the order I solved it:

Today’s NYT Connections is a 2/5 on the Connections Bot difficulty scale and I think some of it was kind of easy, like “potentially explosive things” but I was thrown off by all the “V” words and then the household cleaners and VACUUM, a red herring if ever there was one. Frankly, the Green Group feels more like a Purple Group to me – double vowels? Who looks for these things!? I think I’m just too busy for my own good. My brain is working against me these days.

But there were some other clever misdirects from the puzzle setters at the NYT. VODKA goes with CLUB SODA, for instance. Having two SODAs in one group is sneaky, because we’re trained to think that itself is a red herring. It’s actually just a headfake. ANTIFREEZE, VODKA, HYDROGEN PEROXIDE, VINEGAR and CLUB SODA are all liquids. Really the only two words on the whole list that don’t belong in more than one group are BAZAAR and SKIING, and I suppose if I’d been more clever than I am in hindsight, they’d have led me to Green.
