In 2025, keyboard maker NuPhy announced the launch of its Node series of affordable mechanical keyboards. Now, the brand is revisiting the Node range and explaining the unique inspiration behind the design.

To mark one year of the Node 75 and 100 keyboards, NuPhy is releasing a set of 11 Limited Edition Node Control T3 specialty keycaps that reflect the inspiration behind the Node’s design with subtle and expressive details and a fresh way to personalize the Node keyboards.

The deisgn of the NuPhy Node was inspired by the Braun T3 radio. The Taschenempfänger T3 was an iconic pocket transistor radio designed in 1958 by Braun’s Dieter Rams in collaboration with the Hochschule für Gestaltung Ulm.

The T3 was unique for its time because instead of using chrome and synthetic wood trim it took a more modern approach. In those days, radios were large devices featuring ornate tuning dials. In contrast, the T3 has a rectangular plastic housing and a circular tuning dial, along with a perforated speaker grille. Dieter Rams’ approach to functional design was based around that simple dot pattern on the T3’s speaker grille and that became a core element of the Node keyboards’ visual language.

The Limited Edition Node Control T3 specialty keycaps won’t appeal to everyone but for anyone who admires classic design of the 20 th century, will appreciate the minimalist late-1950s look that Dieter Rams managed to create.

The NuPhy Node has three ways to connect: Bluetooth, USB-C and 2.4GHz RF which provides low-latency wireless connectivity. The Node 75 has a USA ANSI layout and the 75% design is compact enough to fit on a smaller desk but still has sufficient keys to suit most people’s needs.

To ensure the keyboard can be used at an optimal typing angle, the Node includes two kickstands with three settings, allowing for a low fron and high back tilt that aligns the user’s wrists and prevents discomfort during long typing sessions. A gasket-mounted PCB softens the keystrokes by absorbing impact and reducing vibration.

Perhaps the standout feature of the Node 75 is its customizable touch bar, which activates with a simple swipe. The touch bar can be programmed to respond to single taps, double taps and sliding gestures which can be used to control volume levels or adjust screen brightness.

The Node 75 is available with both high-profile or low-profile switches. NuPhy recommends the high-profile version for users who want a classic mechanical feel, while the low-profile option is better for anyone who needs a portable and quiet keyboard for use during lectures or in quiet spaces like a library.

A full charge of the keyboard’s battery delivers up to 1,000 hours of use in low-power mode, enabling weeks of operation between charges. However, battery life depletes rapidly when the RGB backlights are turned on, though built-in settings for energy saving help to extend the battery life by turning off the LEDs after a few seconds of inactivity.
