Jean Silva prevailed in the main event of Noche UFC on Saturday in Glendale, Arizona, but not before demonstrating odd behavior/strategy in the first round. Silva took care of Jose Miguel Delgado via third-round submission, but in the first round, Lord was dropped and didn’t throw a single strike for the first three-plus minutes of the opening frame.

It was strange, but once Silva got going, it was clear he was a class above Delgado. His pressure, power and ultimately submission skills were the difference. Delgado took the fight on short notice after Yair Rodriguez was forces out due to injury. He made a good account of himself, but he does not appear to be on the level of the top 145-pounders in the UFC.

Silva got the win with a dynamic one-arm rear-naked choke. Take a look:

Silva made it clear, he wants a shot at the 145-pound crown in his next fight. That title will be on the line later this year at UFC 333 when champion Alexander Volkanovski defends against Movsar Evloev.

Silva earned one of the $100K bonuses with his finish.

Brandon Moreno Outlasts Joseph Morales

The former UFC flyweight champion took home a much-needed win in the co-main event. In a close, hard-fought battle, two judges gave Moreno all three rounds; the other judge saw the fight in favor of Morales.

It was a tough fight to score, but Moreno did capture the third round definitively. As a matter of fact, that was the only round in the fight that was clearly in one of the two warriors’ favor.

Moreno is already looking forward to fighting on the final card of the year and there’s a fellow flyweight contender already campaigning to face him.

It feels like Johnson-Moreno is a fight we should have seen already, but it hasn’t happened. With Moreno stopping a two-fight skid with his win over Morales, and with Johnson coming off a win via Scottish Twister over Eduardo Chapolin in August, the timelines seemingly line up well.

Noche UFC Finishes and a Fantastic Fight

Sean King III Destroys Jessie Rosas

King made quite the splash. He was supposed to be fighting on Dana White’s Contender Series in a few weeks. Instead, he stepped in on nine days notice to face Rosas. King only needed 33 seconds to slam Rosas on his head and score an explosive KO win in his UFC debut.

He locked up a performance bonus the moment Rosas’ head hit the mat.

Tommy Gantt Bores, Then Submits Drakkar Klose

This fight was the worst one on the card for about 2.5 rounds. Finally, Gantt, who was dominating with his MMA wrestling the entire time, decided to put his foot on the glass.

This reverse triangle was the best part of this fight.

Gantt looks like a real problem at 155 pounds, but he’s got to look for the finish more. I’m not saying he needs to abandon his wrestling. I’m saying his wrestling needs to lead to strikes or submission attempts and not just holding a guy in place.

Yousri Belgaroui Blows Up Djorden Santos

Belgaroui might have been in a mismatch, but he made it look like one. The 6-foo-t6 middleweight chopped the overmatched Santos down en route to this first-round stoppage.

We’ll see what happens with Belgaroui’s next assignment. He could be in a Top-15 fight the next time we see him.

Tommy McMillen and Marwan Rahiki Put on an Instant Classic

What a fight. At one point, it looked like Tim Elliott and Edgar Chairaz were headed for Fight of the Night, then McMillen-Rahiki happened.

It had everything. We saw huge punches, knockdowns, submission escapes and momentum shifts. In the end, the rugged and emotional McMillen emerged with the unanimous-decision win. Take a look at some of these moments.

Here is a look at all of the results from the event.
