Naim Updates Its Mu-So Player With Most Sophisticated Design Ever
British audio brand Naim has been at the pinnacle of hi-fi technology for more than half a century. Back in 2014, the brand branched out by launching the Naim Mu-so, its first all-in-one wireless speaker combining elegant design with ease of use and high sound quality. Now, the company has announced the launch of the Naim Mu-so Utopia, its most powerful all-in-one system and the first major update since 2019.
Optimized by Naim’s iin-house engineers, the Mu-so Utopia has innovative developments in amplification, streaming, DSP and immersive technologies. With a total power output of 720W across 15 speaker drivers, plus Dolby Atmos compatibility, the new Mu-so has the same dimensions as previous models and can be used in spaces up to 50m².
The Mu-so Utopia aims to offer the high standards of a traditional hi-fi system with an immersive audio experience in an easy-to-use package. The device will be on display for the first time at the Paris Audio Video Show starting October 23, 2026.
At the heart of the new Mu-so Utopia is the Naim Pulse Platform, which handles streaming and audio processing. The acoustic design includes 15 speaker drivers that were developed with sister company Focal. Paired with Naim DSP and an amplifier designed for the Mu-so Utopia, the system produces an exceptionally wide soundstage.
Driving the sound is Naim’s most powerful amplifier ever developed for the Mu-so. Its hybrid architecture combines Class D amplifiers, for their power and efficiency, with Class AB amplifiers for the higher frequencies. This design provides energy, control and refinement.
The Naim Pulse Platform brings together Naim’s expertise in software and electronics. By utilizing the SPHERE module, the system is optimized to reproduce and enhance content for a sound that is far more immersive than traditional stereo. The platform supports high-resolution streaming up to 384kHz / 32-bit while managing advanced DSP processing and multi-room playback.
Adaptive Acoustic Personal Tuning
Adaptive Acoustic Personal Tuning is a smart feature that adjusts performance based on the dimensions of the listening room. It can be set up easily using the Focal & Naim app, ensuring sound is tailored to whichever room the unit is placed in.
Naim products are recognizable by their anodized aluminum heatsinks to regulate the heat emitted by internal components and the Mu-so Utopia is no exception. Its heatsink maintains an optimal operating temperature for long-term reliability. The Mu-so also incorporates compressor-limiter technology tailored for Focal speaker drivers and Naim electronics. This feature allows the volume to be turned up without fear of damaging the speakers.
The Mu-so Utopia has been optimized by Naim’s engineering teams after countless hours of listening, testing, and fine-tuning to give it the distinctive Naim sound signature. Naim also drew on Focal’s acoustic expertise by incorporating M-profile W-cone midrange drivers and next-generation PRISM tweeters.
Focal’s W-cone midrange driver with an M-profile design offers exceptional control over key performance factors: lightness, rigidity, and damping. It optimizes the frequency response curve while keeping distortion low. Naim says the result is “a midrange that is exceptionally precise and clear.”
The PRISM technology represents a major advance in high-frequency reproduction. By combining a multi-material substrate with an advanced micro-structuring process, the profile has achieved superior stiffness while striking an ideal balance between lightness, damping and rigidity. The patented PRISM tweeters are manufactured in France at Focal’s Saint-Étienne factory.
The Mu-so Utopia supports streaming via Apple AirPlay, Google Cast, UPnP and Bluetooth. It also offers direct support for music streaming services like TIDAL, Qobuz, Spotify, Presto Music, and QQ Music with just a few taps in the Focal and Naim app. The app’s Multiroom function connects music across the entire Focal and Naim ecosystem.
Additionally, with Google Home and Siri compatibility, the Mu-so Utopia can be integrated into high-end home automation systems like Control4, Savant, and Crestron for automated morning routines, smart device synchronization and more.
Beyond its capabilities as a standalone hi-fi system, the Mu-so has home theater features, including HDMI eARC and Toslink optical inputs for connecting to a TV, game console or CD/Blu-ray player. Combined with Dolby Atmos compatibility, it supports spatialized audio configurations up to 7.1.2 using proprietary processing.\
On the front panel, woofers deliver immersive bass while full-range speaker drivers on the sides and top anchor the sound in the space, creating an immersive atmosphere by reflecting sound waves off the walls and ceiling. Room acoustic calibration uses a combination of beamforming and Crosstalk Cancellation technologies for control of audio signals from the speaker driver to the listening position.
The Mu-so Utopia can be controlled via app widgets on a smartphone, Wear OS smartwatch, or Apple Watch. The app makes it easy to control individual or grouped products across the Focal & Naim ecosystem and access audio settings on the fly. Additionally, the iconic rotary, touch-sensitive volume dial on the Mu-so unit handles primary control functions.
As with all Naim products, premium design is front and center of the Mu-so. Housed in a deep black, brushed anodized aluminum alloy casing, it features signature Utopia design accents, including a distinctive red trim that sharpens its lines. Finely perforated aluminum grilles, an elegant volume control dial, and Naim’s signature heatsink complete the look.
