Much like Samsung’s new feature rollout to millions of Galaxy phone s, Google has announced five new Android tools in its September Android Drop that will come to devices running Android 16 or 17, with some rolling out to phones as old as Android 9.

What’s New In The September Android Feature Drop

The headline addition is Find Hub remembered items. You can now ask Gemini to remember where you put things that don’t have a tracker tag, such as your passport, a spare key, or a charger you keep losing. Google says reminders like “remember I put my passport in my bedroom drawer” will save the location for you to recall later.

There’s also Motion Assist, which adds a moving overlay to your Android screen designed to reduce motion sickness when you’re using your phone as a passenger in a car. You can customise its shape, colour and opacity, set it to trigger automatically, or add it to Quick Settings. This is only available to Android phones running Android 17.

Next, Guided vision lets you share your camera with Gemini Live to hear spoken descriptions of what’s in front of you. Designed with the blind and low-vision community, it helps with tasks like reading a food label or identifying something in low light. This, understandably, is being made available to as many Android devices as possible, so long as they’re running Android 9 or above.

Two more Android updates land in Google Messages. You can now create and edit shared Google Keep notes directly inside a conversation without switching apps. And Chat themes let you customise individual conversations with their own backgrounds and colour-matched text bubbles, available right now.

Gemini Intelligence Is Missing From This Android Update

There’s no Gemini Intelligence included in this Android update, though. Google’s agentic AI suite, which books restaurants, finds documents and completes tasks across your apps with minimal input, is conspicuously absent from this update and the One UI 9 rollout currently spreading across several Galaxy phones.

That’s not necessarily a surprise. The new AI toolset is Google’s jewel in the crown and, at the very least, it needs 12GB of RAM to run, which a lot of Android phones don’t have. But for the ones that do, there is an odd silence around when, or if, Gemini Intelligence will come to those Android phones.

I have asked both Samsung and Google directly which Android devices will receive Gemini Intelligence and where the cutoff falls. Neither has given a concrete answer and I suspect it’s for one of two reasons. Either it’s simply reserved for flagships released after the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Pixel 11 series, or Google isn’t sure how far down the Android device list it should go with a wider rollout yet.

One clue we have is the Galaxy S26 FE, which launched last week with One UI 9 and some new Samsung AI features, but without Gemini Intelligence , confirming the feature requires 12GB of RAM and that mid-range Android phones won’t see Google’s agentic AI.

The only other clue is that Google describes the Pixel 11 series as “designed for Gemini Intelligence,” which tells me this is a new phones-only thing. But as Samsung undergoes a huge One UI 9 rollout across several new and old Android phones, we’ll soon know which devices have been given the nod to run Android’s latest agentic AI.
