Marshall Expands Hendrix Tribute With Three 60th Anniversary Editions
The Forbes Innovation Channel is all about cutting-edge technology, but occasionally it’s a real treat to see innovation meeting nostalgia. That’s exactly what Marshall’s continuing tribute to guitarist Jimi Hendrix is an expanded, cosmic-inspired anniversary collection of amplifiers, Bluetooth headphones, and speakers, celebrating 60 years since Hendrix first plugged his Fender Stratocaster into a Marshall amp.
Marshall’s latest unveiling of Hendrix-inspired products features the Major V wireless headphones, Emberton III Bluetooth speaker and the Studio Vintage guitar amplifier, all reimagined with a distinctive new aesthetic to celebrate the finest guitarist to ever come out of Seattle and probably the U.S.
Drawing from the cosmic imagery, exploration of space and distinctive use of color that wove its way through Jimi Hendrix’s music, art and creative world, each new Hendrix Edition product has a visual language that’s unmistakably Hendrix and which has been developed with Authentic Hendrix, LLC, the official Hendrix family company responsible for managing the name, image and likeness of Jimi Hendrix.
Hendrix 60th Anniversary Edition Major V
Tuned to deliver Marshall’s signature rock sound in a rugged and foldable design, the anniversary edition of the brand’s popular Major V headphones can play non-stop Hendrix for days between charges.
The Major V on-ear headphones have a sleek black finish, which has been elevated with psychedelic graphics and some subtle, Hendrix-inspired details. A striking purple oil-on-water design flows throughout the inner headband and ear cups. The design is finished off with the all-seeing eye motif.
Hendrix 60th Anniversary Edition Emberton III
Continuing the purple oil-on-water design across Marshall’s compact Bluetooth speaker’s sleeve and through the grille, the Emberton III Anniversary Edition pays serious homage to Hendrix. The all-seeing eye appears in silver on the media jog control and is accompanied by purple LEDs.
The speaker’s silicone sleeve is hand-dipped using a water-transfer print, making each piece unique. With more than a full day of listening from a single charge of the Emberton III’s built-in battery, users can play through Hendrix’s entire body of recorded music.
Hendrix 60th Anniversary JMH Studio
Built by hand at the Marshall factory in Bletchley, U.K., the portable JMH Studio amplifier is a reimagined design of Marshall’s classic Studio Vintage amplifier. From expressive cleans and deep blues textures to expansive and harmonically rich amplified sound, the combination is designed to bring Hendrix-quality to a performance or studio recording.
Made from high-grade plywood and wrapped in black Tolex, this stack looks like classic Marshall. A one-of-a-kind anniversary design features black and purple in a psychedelic pattern across the fret and control panel, which is complemented by a purple LED indicator.
Drawing on Hendrix’s distinct personal style and the silver jewelry that became part of his visual identity, Marshall has added intricate silver beading and woven it throughout, detailing the knobs, handle, logo, grille and back panel. The all-seeing eye badge, derived from Hendrix’s fascination with the third eye and expanded vision, sits on the top and bottom of the stack, completing the overall look.
