‘Lioness’ Season 4: Renewal Status, Release Date And What We Know
Season 3 of Lioness came to a close Sunday, leaving us with some shocking reveals and a clear setup for Season 4 . The big questions we have now that Season 3’s mystery has been solved: Will there be a Season 4 and when will that likely drop? Will Zoe Saldaña, Nicole Kidman, and Morgan Freeman all reprise their roles? And how will the big reveal at the end of Season 3 shape the story going forward with Joe and her QRF team?
Unfortunately, the answers to those questions remain a mystery, though we have some clues to help guide us. Paramount has not announced an official renewal yet, but that doesn’t say much about the show’s future. Season 3 wasn’t officially renewed until October 1, 2025, almost 10 months after the Season 2 finale. Season 3 debuted about ten months later.
If that cadence is repeated, a Season 4 renewal would arrive in July, 2027 followed by a May 2028 debut. That’s just speculation, of course. It could be renewed tomorrow, with a 2027 release date. With no official announcement, we can only make guesses, but the show’s cast seems optimistic.
“We’re going to get a Season 4. We will, we will,” cast member and producer Jill Wagner said in an interview with ScreenRant . “When people see what [Taylor Sheridan] wrote for the finale, we are getting a Season 4. Or I will pay you $100.”
Another encouraging sign: the show’s writing team appears to be expanding. Decider reported recently that Michael Idov and his wife have joined the show as series writers and supervising producers.
In terms of reviews, Season 3 held steady with fans up to 78% in Season 3 from 72% in Season 2 and 76% for Season 1. Both Seasons 2 and 3 scored much higher than Season 1 with critics on Rotten Tomatoes . More importantly, Lioness has strong viewership numbers. The Season 3 premiere reached 7.1 million viewers in its first seven days of streaming, significantly outperforming Season 2’s premiere .
If I were a betting man, I’d put good money on a Season 4 renewal. Strong viewership numbers and reviews, a passionate fanbase, and the working relationship with Taylor Sheridan (before his contract runs out) all point to a Season 4. The events of Season 3 make me suspect that Season 4 will also be the final season. No casting announcements have been made, so we also have no way to know who would return or who might be added if and when Season 4 is officially confirmed. Stay tuned as this post will be updated should facts on the ground change.
