Generally speaking, James Gunn has stayed out of the speculation that Adria Arjona has secretly been cast as Wonder Woman, and she will begin her time as the hero with a cameo in Man of Tomorrow . While all logic points to that, a news item broke this weekend where a cast member seemed to confirm it was happening on Instagram. Gunn did hop on that pretty quickly and debunked it in a somewhat hilarious way.

The actor in question is Frank Grillo, who has played Rick Flagg Sr. in at least three different DCU projects already. He shared an image that showed Adria Arjona in Wonder Woman gear, plus Blue Beetle, who has not been confirmed for Man of Tomorrow yet. Here was Gunn’s initial response on Threads:

“It’s Frank reposting somebody because it has his photo in it and he loves himself. I can assure you Frank doesn’t know who Adria is playing in the DCU and whether or not she has any sort of incredibly small cameo in MoT or not. People have been making wayyyyyyyyyyyyy too much of this.”

When another commenter said that it was hard to believe him, Gunn shared an actual text thread he had with Grillo about the post:

To be clear, Gunn and Grillo are good friends, so both posts are a bit of roasting. But Gunn’s initial text is a little weird given that he says, “You’re going to disappoint people so badly!” which would be sort of a confirmation that they’re not in the film, or at least Arjona isn’t playing Wonder Woman.

Gunn also talks about Arjona’s possible “incredibly small cameo” in Man of Tomorrow , where we have seen her post and talk about her absolutely insane workout regimen to get in shape for the movie. It could be a small cameo, but it seems far more likely she is gearing up for her actual debut in a Wonder Woman movie, which is currently being written, or possibly has been finished.

I do believe Gunn that Frank Grillo doesn’t know anything and probably reposted that without even looking at it for two seconds past his own picture. I do not believe Gunn when he heavily implies that Arjona is not Wonder Woman, though I mean, what else is he going to say at this point? Is he going to confirm that on Threads? Filming is already over, and there were no leaked shots of Arjona at all in any costume, so we likely will not know until the film itself is out, which is no doubt the goal, of course. But there is little doubt as to where this is all going to end up, so congrats to Arjona, who I’d say is a great pick for Diana.
