Apple’s iPhone 17 series has seen repeated price cuts in the last couple of weeks , with the iPhone 17 Pro Max getting the biggest discounts as retailers try to clear stock.

At the same time, Apple jacked up the price of the base iPhone 17 by $100. Putting up prices on old devices is a first for the company before 2026, but unfortunately common for major tech companies this year. Samsung did the exact same thing with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in April.

With the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max now discontinued, a timer on those phones has now been started as retailers try to clear remaining stock with more discounts.

New iPhone 17 Discounts This Week

JB Hi-Fi in Australia has cut the base iPhone 17 to AUD$1,399, down from its AUD$1,499 launch price. MediaMarkt Germany has the iPhone 17 Pro Max 256GB at €1,329, down from its €1,449 launch price, which is a €120 saving.

Amazon U.K. continues to offer the iPhone 17 Pro at £999 and the iPhone 17 Pro Max at £1,049, both of which are £100 below Apple’s official U.K. prices. The iPhone Air 512GB remains £200 off at Amazon.

Why Apple Is Raising The iPhone 17 Price

Apple raised the price of the iPhone 17 series by $100 across its own stores immediately after the iPhone 18 Pro announcement. The reason is the same memory crisis that is driving up iPhone 18 Pro prices. Component costs have risen significantly throughout 2026 and Apple has decided to spread that extra cost to buyers across two generations.

It’s not just Apple, Google raised Pixel 11 prices by approximately $100 compared to the Pixel 10 series at launch in August. Samsung’s Galaxy S26 series launched at higher prices than the S25, and the Galaxy Z Fold 7 got a price hike seven months after launch. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra cost $200 more than the Galaxy Z Fold 7 at launch too.

With that said, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 launched at $1,899, which was the same price as the Z Fold 7 despite higher part prices. I suspect Samsung absorbed some of the margin hit to stay competitive with the incoming iPhone Duo. The Fold 8 also lost Flex Mode which may have been a cost saving measure to hit that price.

Which Retailers Are Matching Apple’s iPhone 17 Price Rise

Not everyone is cutting prices. John Lewis in the U.K. has matched Apple’s new higher iPhone 17 pricing. Fnac Darty in France has raised the base iPhone 17 to €1,119. MediaMarkt Germany has also nudged the base iPhone 17 slightly above its original launch price.

The retailers still holding or cutting prices are doing so to clear stock ahead of iPhone 18 Pro shipping on September 18th. Once that stock clears, those discounts disappear, as does the iPhone 17 Pro Max outside of refurbished or used models. Amazon U.K.’s iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max discounts, JB Hi-Fi’s Australian base model cut and MediaMarkt Germany’s Pro Max reduction are your best opportunities to find a deal right not.
