Apple has released iOS 27 , its long-awaited annual software update for the iPhone. The iOS 27 update comes with a bunch of new features, including updates to Siri and the controversial Liquid Glass interface.

But beyond features, iOS 27 also contains more than 120 patches for security vulnerabilities in the iPhone software — a valid reason to upgrade your device as soon as possible.

iOS 27 Fixes Kernel Flaws

The iOS 27 upgrade contains a lot of fixes, but major annual updates usually do. None of the flaws patched in iOS 27 have been used in attacks, yet. But there are multiple fixes in the iPhone Kernel at the heart of the operating system.

“The number of fixes in iOS 27 matters less than where they sit, and this is a Kernel release rather than a browser release,” says Adam Boynton, senior enterprise strategy manager at Jamf.

A standout iOS 27 fix is CVE-2026-64752 , a memory corruption bug located in CoreMedia, the framework that handles media processing on Apple devices, according to Boynton.

He points out that an attacker could compromise an iPhone by getting a malicious image in front of the user. “Interestingly, rather than patching the flawed code, Apple chose to remove it entirely,” he says.

Among the Kernel bugs squashed in iOS 27 is CVE-2026-43689, which could allow a malicious app to gain root privileges, according to Apple’s support page . The update also fixes three flaws in WebKit, the engine that underpins Apple’s Safari.

Should I Update To iOS 27?

So, should you update to iOS 27? There are certainly lots of reasons to, but you should check if your iPhone can run the latest upgrade.
