Here’s Everything Coming To Destiny 2’s Final June 9 Update
I can’t believe I’m actually saying this, but barring some miracle, tomorrow, Tuesday, June 9, is Destiny 2’s last content update ever. Bungie has pulled out every stop, and even if they couldn’t make significant seasonal or expansion content for this, they have added what they can and given the game arguably its best overhaul in years.
It’s so much, it’s easy to forget what’s coming, and I thought I would write an abridged reminder list that summarizes probably 25,000 words of blog posts over the past week. You are free to read them in full , but if you want the highlights, here you go:
- Distortions - What appears like it was going to be a lead-in to Shattered Cycle, there is a new patrol-based activity called Distortions, where a specific planet will be chosen to have more powerful enemies and different events that will reward their own unique pool of weapons, with higher tiers given out from public events.
- Sparrow Racing League – The fabled Destiny 1 event returns after all these years, right as the game is closing down. It brings back all the old maps and adds a new one. You can race for cosmetics but also a speed-based armor set and weapon pool.
- Pantheon – The raid event returns with new bosses, rewards and ways to play. It will start with two activities with boss lineups, then a third will be added for the full gauntlet. After, Pantheon will continue as a set rotation with individual bosses.
- 4v4 Crucible Collision – A new PvP mode that has 4v4 play and is focused more around weapons than other modes.
- Destination Gear – Each pre-Edge of Fate destination now has its own armor set (cosmetically reprised) with a new set bonus perk that echoes the destination. Each zone will also bring back old weapons that will now be integrated into the Tier system.
- Raid and Dungeon Rewards – All raids and dungeons, all of them, now have their own armor sets with set perks, and reprised weapons that are now integrated into the tier system, many updated with new perks. All raids and dungeons will also feature a low-stakes, mechanic-learning adventure mode with lower gear pools.
- Playlist Gear – Each type of playlist is getting its own pool of gear, some old, some new, and some big-name reprisals like Arena Ops giving out old Black Armory weapons. Others, like Onslaught, will bring back the entire set of Into the Light weapons to be tiered for the first time.
- Gambit – Gambit is now its own ops playlist, will get a new armor set with a new bonus, and reprised Gambit weapons we haven’t seen return yet.
- Exotic Catalysts – Every exotic weapon will now have its own catalyst, meaning the final batch will finally be complete. Some are more elaborate, others are things like adding an existing basic perk.
- Gear Focusing – Vendors like Banshee-44, Saint-14 and Zavala will have focusing that will allow you to get rewards from the Edge of Fate, Ash and Iron and Renegades eras of the game.
- Bright Engram Focusing And Bright Dust – You will now be able to focus Bright Engrams with dust to acquire previous cosmetics you haven’t gotten before. For armor, you can now apply any transmog to any piece of exotic armor. The Eververse Bright Dust store will now rotate daily and feature more items in the pool than before.

Gameplay And Systems Changes
- Artifacts – Will no longer rotate, but instead, seven Artifacts will be available, modified from past seasons. There is a simplified perk-picking system and they now save with loadouts.
- Anti-Champion – There are no more Artifact nodes for anti-champion weapons. Rather, all archetypes in the game have been assigned a specific anti-champion functionality, ie. Support ARs are anti-overload, Wave-frame Grenade Launchers are anti-unstoppable, or more broadly, all Precision weapons are anti-barrier.
- Attunement – You can now attune specific weapons from Ops or activities, focusing specific gear across everything with one item selected each time from each playlist.
- The Director – Replaces the Portal as the main screen as in days past, and Portal nodes will be accessible from there.
- The Portal – Still exists, but has been dramatically simplified with different difficulties automatically granting different tiers, with modifiers upping you a tier.
- Trials and Iron Banner – Will now operate on a set rotation indefinitely. Both have new armor sets and new tiered weapons added.
- Armor Stats – All Exotic armor is now Tier 5. There are six new armor archetypes combining different stats compared to the existing ones.
- Tier Upgrading – You can now spend materials to upgrade weapon tiers, which will enhance perks without adding multiple columns. You can upgrade crafted and adept weapons to be equivalent to Tier 5 power.
- Vault – Increasing in slots from 1000 to 1300, likely the final upgrade.
- Loadouts – Increasing from 12 to 20.
- Titan Solar Shieldburst Aspect – Sends your towering barricade forward which is able to be detonated in a scorching blast. Rally barricade grants you and your teammates scorching rounds for solar and kinetic weapons.
- Hunter Solar Crackshot Aspect – Mark up to three targets and dodge to shoot them with solar rounds, and it can be used while airborne. Damage scales with 100+ class stat.
- Warlock Void Soul Siphon – Hit a foe with a powered melee, then siphon energy from all enemies in front of you, dealing damage and getting Overshield and class ability energy.
- Hunter Nightstalker Phantom Surge Melee – Hunters dash forward, slashing through combatants, dealing more damage to void-debuffed targets, and granting Overshield and melee energy on kill.
- Titan Ward of Dawn – Now pulls enemies into the dome, buffing players and debuffing enemies. A new core in the Ward can now be thrown to redeploy the dome in a new spot.
- Stasis Shatter Grenade – Explodes into ricocheting Stasis Shrapnel.
- Strand Slicewire Grenade – Bouncing Grenade that damages and severs targets.
Alright, I give up. Far too many to list here, and I’m tapping out. Hopefully this summary, slimming things down by 24,000 words, is enough to get you started…and excited.
