Hailee Steinfeld is currently promoting her new Disney movie, Hexed , in which she voices the lead character. However, as one of a hundred MCU stars, she’s being asked multiple questions about her role in the universe, the main one being: Is Kate Bishop in Avengers: Doomsday ? Now, she appears to have lost her poker face in what seems like three separate instances now.

First, there’s a video where a fan shouts at her, asking if she’s in Avengers: Doomsday. She nods, then looks somewhat horrified after the fact.

Then, she’s asked about that moment later on in a different interview and does, what I’ll call “a voice,” denying it in a pretty strange tone.

Then, in her most high-profile appearance, she appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and he asks her the same thing. Her response is “I actually have no idea, time will tell.”

What? What does that even mean? It’s a nonsensical statement and not just a non-denial, but something that doesn’t even make sense on its face. It’s playing coy but in a very awkward way.

At this point, actors like this should no that you subscribe to the Andrew Garfield school of denial where you just flat-out like to everyone’s face like he did for Spider-Man: No Way Home . She is…not doing that, or even attempting to.

So, why would Kate Bishop be in Avengers: Doomsday? Her show, 2021’s Hawkeye spanned a wide range of MCU characters, from Daredevil’s Swordsman and Kingpin to Thunderbolts’ Yelena Belova to her mentor, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, where the show ended with her effectively being the new Hawkeye herself. Renner, despite being an original, not-dead, not-time-traveled Avenger, is not listed as being in Doomsday , nor is she.

However, her chemistry in Hawkeye with Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova did not go unnoticed, and Yelena is supposed to be one of the leads of all of Avengers: Doomsday . Later, Bishop is recruited by Iman Velani’s Kamala Khan to be a part of a Young Avengers-type group. But there is no word on whether that project will actually take shape, which now seems unlikely. Still, like Pugh, it seems as if Disney should keep an A-list Oscar-winner in their lineup, similar to what they’ve done with Pugh (well, she was a nominee). Steinfeld as Kate Bishop is also considered one of the better castings in the MCU.

If Steinfeld is in the film, it is likely to be little more than a cameo, given that even the announced cast is sprawling, and more are being added. A new teaser showed that Doctor Doom had scooped up Bruce Banner for his “collection,” when Mark Ruffalo was noticeably left off the original cast list. Doom is supposed to collect more MCU characters to come, and it seems likely those have not been listed either (Dr. Strange and Scarlet Witch are the main guesses among fans). I would not imagine Kate Bishop is in that group, albeit I would love to see it. I bet she’ll be in Doomsday somewhere, and then Marvel needs to understand that she actually needs a bigger role in the larger universe to come. Finally, we can’t forget that at one point, allegedly leaked Avengers: Secret Wars concept art had her, Ms. Marvel and some of the other Young Avengers in it, so if that was true then…

Update : Well, there’s this now too. Cassie Lang would be a Young Avenger as well
