‘Gundam Rogue Orbit’ Shows Off More Gameplay And Confirms Release Date
The upcoming Gundam Rogue Orbit showed off more gameplay footage during Sony’s State of Play yesterday and confirmed a March release date.
Firstly, the gameplay is looking nicely solid and is clearly leaning into the whole mecha Monster Hunter vibe . While some fans have voiced concern over this approach, even recent games like SD Gundam Battle Alliance had a similar functional setup.
That aside, Rogue Orbit also features mecha customization similar to games like Armored Core VI . This is an interesting addition and is also in line with other games like Gundam Breaker .
In this instance, though, Rogue Orbit also offers mod skins, which change the outward appearance of your Gundam to something a bit more classical (shown below).
It’s also clear that this game will be heavily story-driven and will tie into the upcoming Gundam anime as well, as this game acts as a prequel of sorts.
While I totally dig the approach being taken here, and the game does look expertly made, there may be somewhat of a cultural disconnect with overseas fans of Gundam. Who historically prefer the more militaristic anime such as Gundam 0083 and 08th MS Team .
For me, I’m just interested in playing a new mecha game and am curious how it will work on a functional level. I also feel that Gundam is flexible enough to have things like alien monsters in it, as we already crossed that bridge in the Gundam 00 movie, Awakening of the Trailblazer .
All that aside, I will likely be checking this game out at this year’s Tokyo Game Show, so expect some hands-on impressions around then.
Gundam Rogue Orbit will be released on March 5 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
