How serious are you about Grand Theft Auto 6 ? Rockstar is banking on at least some fans being so excited that they’re willing to pay $400 for one of the most interesting packages of goods ever seen that is associated with an upcoming video game. The GTA 6: Vice City Collector’s Box is available for pre-order, mostly stacked, but somehow, the game is sold separately. Let’s talk GTA 6.

Vice City Collection Key Facts

The wording matters. Rockstar calls this a Collector’s Box rather than a Collector’s Edition, which is how a $400 package arrives without the game inside and nobody has to explain themselves. It ships November 19, the same day GTA 6 launches, and it isn’t eligible for free shipping. Reaction has been rough — fans have been canceling pre-orders, with the mirror, swizzle spoon and razor keychain drawing comparisons to merchandise Rockstar sold with the original Vice City in 2002.

You could argue that at $400, the game should be included, but Rockstar very clearly markets this as a collectible set and that the game is sold separately. It’s really no different than a set of collector’s items attached to any popular IP that isn’t attached to a video game title.

From a pure collector’s item value standpoint, having authentic Oakley and New Era products makes it feel like a value — if you’re analyzing the package holistically. This is the latest example of Rockstar selling the world attached to GTA before gamers actually get their hands on controllers and have their eyes peeled on the screen. That said, the content — especially the figurine of Macca the Gator — should probably be swapped for Jason or Lucia.

Aside from that, the set is actually yet another eye-popping drop attached to a game set to re-define the industry.
