Govee’s New Ceiling Light Can Play Animations
Govee is on a bit of a launch spree right now and, following hot on the heels of the Lightwall that went live earlier this month , the Govee Ceiling Light Ultra has now gone on sale in the US.
First teased back in January at CES 2026 , it takes the brand’s existing ceiling light formula and cranks it up, both in size and ambition.
At 21 inches across, this is the biggest model Govee has made so far and it’s aimed squarely at larger rooms.
The Chinese smart light specialist says it can comfortably light spaces up to 320 square feet, with output hitting 5,000 lumens.
That’s a decent jump over the older 12- and 15-inch versions, which top out at 2,400 and 4,300 lumens respectively.
Inside the Ultra is a dense array of 616 individually controllable LEDs arranged in what Govee describes as a screen-style matrix.
In practice, that means it isn’t just a ceiling light that changes color, it can also display simple visuals, much like the Curtain Light range currently does… so, low-resolution, heavily diffused imagery rather than anything sharp.
But it’s enough to show patterns, animations and even basic custom images pushed from the Govee app.
There are over 100 preset effects to play with, including music-reactive modes, but the custom image support is the more unusual addition.
Early demos show artwork being uploaded and reinterpreted by the panel. It’s not going to replace a display, but it does push the category into slightly odd territory.
Elsewhere, it sticks fairly close to what Govee already does. There’s a secondary backlight ring that throws color onto the ceiling or walls, adding a bit more depth beyond the main panel. This model also uses dual white-light LEDs across both the front and rear lighting, which should help with overall brightness and balance.
On the smart home side, support is in place for Matter, Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Samsung SmartThings.
There’s also a new DaySync feature, which adjusts brightness, color and temperature automatically based on the time of day.
It can track local sunrise and sunset timings and shifts the light to match, which isn’t a new idea in smart lighting, but it arguably makes more impact here given how bright and massive this thing is.
The Ceiling Light Ultra is available now for $249.99 through Govee’s own store and from Amazon.
