Google has announced a special Pokémon edition of the Fitbit Air , intended for use with the Pokémon Sleep app.

At first glance there’s not too much to warrant the $129.99 Fitbit Air Special Edition Pokémon Sleep’s $30 bump over the standard $99.99 version, but there are some minor differences.

The Pokémon Sleep version’s strap has a “custom silk print label” depicting Pikachu having a snooze, on the underside of the strap.

The blue finish of the strap is dubbed Sleepy Blue, and while I initially though the strap buckle may have a more lavish finish than the standard edition, the warm metal look seen here is actually shared with the standard Berry finish Fitbit Air.

Whether $30 for the Pokémon link and a slightly more elaborate strap is worth it is something you’ll have to square with your bank balance. But it does give the Fitbit Air a collectable edge, and the strap is not listed separately.

The Fitbit Air Special Edition Pokémon Sleep is one of two themed editions of the wearable currently listed on the Google Store. Stephen Curry’s signature model is the other one.

Basketball player Curry was key to the tracker’s pre-release marketing, as he made numerous social media posts wearing the Fitbit Air in the weeks ahead of its announcement. His strap design is called Rye, and features a combination of orange and grey-brown parts and has “a raised interior print inspired by athletic racing stripes specifically engineered to increase airflow during high-intensity movement.”

The Fitbit Air Special Edition Stephen Curry Band was announced in May, when the Air itself was first unveiled. Neither version brings any extra features or upgraded hardware.

What’s Pokémon Sleep in the first place? It’s a fun take on sleep tracking, a game that sees you gather Pokémon as you sleep.

While it does not require a tracker, as a phone placed by your pillow can do a similar job, a Fitbit Air can link to the Pokémon Sleep app for a more streamlined experience.

Pokémon Sleep is free to download, but there are in-app purchases and a Premium Pass that costs $9.99 a month. This grants more points for each recorded sleep, and other bonuses.

The Fitbit Air Special Edition Pokémon Sleep is available to pre-order now for $129.99, and will begin shipping from September 15. Using Pokémon Sleep with it is not mandatory, though, and you simply use it like any other Fitbit Air, with data initially gathered in the Google Health app. Standard Fitbit Air bands can be used with Pokémon Sleep too.
